I listened to most of this collection while up late decorating for Christmas- so while not seasonally appropriate, I enjoyed this spooky background on my endless trips from the basement and back! Some of the stories fit in with the original spirit of the Schwartz collection better than others- some more silly than spooky like the original “Viper”. I thought “The Golden Peacock” and “Brain Spiders” especially matched the creepiness of the original!

Our new scary stories to tell in the dark episode is out. We take a walk down memory lane and muse on the cathartic aspects of a good horror story. Also, Peter comes face to face with his neuroses.

We took a trip back to our childhoods this week, as we read Alvin Schwartz's classic horror collection “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.“ We discuss what makes a story scary and what kind of stories scare us the most. In addition, we praise the artwork of Stephen Gammell, read aloud selections, and more. Also, please let us know what your favorite story is from the collection. Enjoy!

I read this every year around Halloween and I love it just as much every single time. This book introduced me to scary stories as a child and probably turned me into the horror fan I am today.

My husband wanted to watch Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I actually enjoyed how they adapted this to the books. My husband is not a reader, so he of course doesn't even remember the books and had nothing to compare it to, but he really seemed to enjoy it.

This is a free watch on one of my bingo cards.

I was looking through Libby for a kids seasonal read. This is described as being akin to Scary Tales to Tell in the Dark but with influences from worldwide folktales. I only read the first 2. They‘re so short! Maybe 2 pages each, written in simple language. The tales themselves are great legends, but the way they‘re retold they have no meat. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious
