Remember my #readthecandidates challenge. The best part of it was that I found Pete Buttigieg. I was all in #teampete right up til the End. So when I saw this book coming out I knew I needed to read it ASAP. It did not disappoint. Chasten is SO real! He is honest and hilarious, but his life has NOT been easy. This book made me feel like I know him. So good, and it made me cry a few times too!

Here‘s my updated bingo board for #NonFictionChallenge2020 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa
I made good progress this month, although a few books were really stinkers 😖
I did appreciate Votes for Women, American Pain, The Only Plane in the Sky and The Girl Who Escaped ISIS.
I need ideas for the remaining prompts, if anyone has suggestions 🙏🏻

merelybookish This is not recent but well respected on economics. 4y
Cinfhen Ohh, thanks!!! It‘s on my TBR @merelybookish ❤️❤️❤️Hope you‘re doing well xx 4y
merelybookish @Cinfhen Its on my TBR too. 🙂 We are doing okay, I guess. But life feels pretty strange as I'm sure you know. Hope you're doing well too! 💕 4y

Cinfhen Thanks so much @Bookwormjillk that was a tough prompt for me 😊Hopefully I‘ll find it!! And it sounds good!!!! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa About the law I‘m going with 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa But these were also great ones I‘ve read in the past... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa For Cybersecurity you know I‘m currently reading about Gamergate, and this book is really good and goes into not only security but trying to get the social media platforms to be helpful.. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa About a candidate...or economics and bailouts...honestly I learned a lot from Elizabeth Warren‘s book if you are interested (edited) 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa If not, I suggest escaping the US Presidental group a bit... maybe John Lewis 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or escaping the US completely...maybe Mandela 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or go candidate adjacent... I‘m sure you read Becoming already, it was excellent if you didn‘t... but how about any other First Lady...or 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa By the way, the other one I had on my list for Cybersecurity was 4y
jenniferw88 If you want to escape to the UK: Class 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa As far as the social safety net...I think the current situation has opened that wide open, so many things might fit in there now. Medical, UBI, income security, food desserts, functioning government are all becoming much more important to our safety.... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or you could go more historical and read about the Great Depression and FDR and where some of the programs were created and why..... sometime the past is easier to read about then current stuff, but still informative 4y
Cinfhen Thank you SO MUCH @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @jenniferw88 your suggestions are so helpful!! Now my TBR is exploding 💜😊 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I might actually go read one of the candidates books that I didn‘t last year with #ReadTheCandidates and read Yang...just because his UBI is starting to make a lot of sense suddenly as part of a social safety net.🤷‍♀️ 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Another one that‘s been on my TBR for awhile, and that I might shoehorn in here because it‘s sort of about the failure of our current social safety net... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Side note...I read Barracoon and She Said and counted them for the same squares. 😂 4y

Decided to start reading this #candidate #memoir, and then he dropped out of the race today. Hope it wasn‘t because I picked his book! #readthecandidates #nonfictionchallenge2020 #somethingaboutacandidate

TheBookHippie I do enjoy him. I heard him speak and talk about his grandma‘s influence on his life, it was really good. 4y
LauraJ Damn you, Barbara! 😹 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LauraJ IKR! I really like him! 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @TheBookHippie Nice! I think he still has a lot of work to do in the Senate. 4y
Peaceful_Reader I want to read this also. Pete‘s book was the best candidate book although I‘ve not read Bernie. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Peaceful_Reader I loved Pete‘s book also. The book by Bernie that I read was very much a campaign piece. Have already heard most of it. 4y
LauraJ @BarbaraTheBibliophage Agree. He‘s young and isn‘t going away anytime soon. 4y

#booked2019 was my final challenge of the year to complete. I met all my goals! Have exceeded my goodreads goal of 200 books (was shooting for 250 but I won‘t make it, it was a tough fall). Completed #readharderchallenge , #readingwomenchallenge, #mmdchallenge, #booked2019 and Basically all of #readthecandidates (I admittedly have skipped some of the candidates that don‘t have a real shot). It‘s been a good year!

melissajayne How do you read 200 books? Do you do anything else? I‘m curious. (edited) 4y
CBee ⬆️⬆️⬆️ what she said - I‘m curious too! (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks Nice! Great work on checking off those challenges!! 4y

Deifio Congrats and nice spreadsheet! Very well organised! 4y
MelissaSue81 @melissajayne @CBee , I do other things, yes, lol. Just under half are audiobooks (I am on my 100th audiobook of the year currently!) which I listen to when I commute and do housework. I am fortunate enough to sometimes have quiet time at work when I work evenings when I can read. And I insomnia helps too, lol. 4y
CBee @MelissaSue81 awesome and congrats!! 4y
sprainedbrain Awesome!!! 🥳🥳🥳 4y
Smarkies Amazing year! I like how you have tracked it. May think of copying that for next year. 4y
MelissaSue81 @Smarkies - I used the BookRiot Reading Log spreadsheet and copied their formulas for the Read Harder Challenge and just plugged in these. So I have all my challenges (Except #MMDChallenge) on one google sheet.

This was my #bookgiftedtome for #booked2019 and also an entry for my #readthecandidates challenge. I actually really enjoyed this. Joe Biden shows his humanity in this story of a terribly difficult time in his life with the loss of his son.i see the appeal of Joe Biden when I see this side of him. It was terribly sad at parts but yet ended on a hopeful note. Was on the fence about this one but glad I listened to it.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I cried my eyes out a few times with this ... 4y
Cinfhen Ok, I‘m sold... #stacked 4y
alisiakae Did you ever see him on Colbert Report talking about his son? It was such an emotional and moving interview. 4y

I‘ve read a lot with #ReadTheCandidates, but Warren is the first that I went back for a second book. She does a great job of laying it all out here, both her ideas & what shaped them. What we‘ve done right, where we went off track, & the forces steering the decisions. Her past as a teacher shines through here, explaining things in a great, easy to understand way. This book is so good and stark, but filled with determination and hope to make..⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...change for the better going forward. #NFNov #NonfictionMatters #Nonfiction2019 4y

I watched the Sunday shows again today (This Week & Meet the Press) and the cable networks after the debate and again I heard about how she‘s too liberal/left or else they talk about Biden, Bernie, and Buttigieg and don‘t even mention her name.... but for me, watching them all and reading a bunch of them this year with #ReadTheCandidates I think she has more widespread appeal than they are giving her credit for. Some Trump voters voted for ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...Change. More for systematic change than him personally, and I think bought in to all his promises. We‘ll see, eventually, but at this point I think the pundits aren‘t giving her enough credit. #NFNov #ReadtheCandidates #NonfictionMatters #Nonfiction2019 4y
