Lizard Music | Daniel Pinkwater
post image
Pickpick

Daniel Pinkwater is definitely a marmite author. Either you're totally willing to embrace an 11-year-old left on his own for a week who starts seeing a band of giant lizards playing music on late-night TV and then meets up with an old black man with a chicken on his head who seems to go by several mysterious aliases and they travel together to a floating invisible island to meet up with a bunch of lizards named Reynold... or you're not 😂

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I love Pinkwater and his absolute out-there wackiness, so I rolled with it. The mysterious Chicken Man shows up in several other books and is a favorite character, too. I read this one for my 1976 slot of #192025 and it was fun reading a book set when TV actually went off the air at night and a grape soda was a dime.

@Librarybelle - only one book after this to complete the challenge!!!

julieclair 🤣🤣😂 Sadly, I think I‘m a “not”. 7d
TheAromaofBooks @julieclair - He's not for everyone, but The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death is genuinely one of my favorite books. It's just SO ridiculous. 6d

This was a fun mystery, nothing groundbreaking. I enjoyed the banter and Mart's huge words. However, I needed more horses 😂 The villain felt ridiculously obvious here, but the other aspects of the mystery (how, why, time capsule, clues, etc) were fun.

TheAromaofBooks #BobWhiteBuddies !!! I totally missed September's book and I apologize. September was just... not good. ANYWAY. Any thoughts on this one? I felt like Sammy was almost the anti-Dan story - an example of someone refusing to take advantage of the good paths being offered. I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

lauraisntwilder There's not a lot about horses, you're right, except for Bobby and Mr. Pony. Speaking of which, wouldn't Reagan have seen Hoppy in the woods when Mr. Pony got spooked? 1w

BookmarkTavern @lauraisntwilder Bobby says that Reagan was over working by the road, so he might not have seen it. 7d
BookmarkTavern Also, totally agree on needed more horses. Although I loved how supportive everyone was of Bobby earning how to ride. 7d
lauraisntwilder @BookmarkTavern Oh, that's right! That's why Bobby had to chase after the pony himself. 7d

I picked this one up because it is by an Ohio author who decided to use the Buckeye Trail (a trail that travels in a circle around Ohio) as part of her setting. However, this just didn't really work for me. A lot of the characters' actions didn't really make sense, especially towards the end. The motivation of the killer also had me a little confused as well. It was an okay read, but I don't see myself picking up the sequel.

TheAromaofBooks @lauredhel - I've found this year's prompts more challenging!! I still have five left. I'm not very scientific about this challenge. I seem to just go on vibes 😂 1w

This was a reread for me, and while I always love reading along with the #HashtagBrigade , ol' Victor got on my nerves even more this time around. He's just so useless! If he spent half the time actually doing something productive as he does sitting around and bemoaning his fate, the creature wouldn't have had the opportunities for destruction that he had. In the end, I think both Frankenstein and the creature are both monsters. This book ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) definitely deserves its status as a classic and is completely worth the read, but I get too aggravated with literally everyone to really love it. Soft pick.

TheAromaofBooks @BarkingMadRead - OwlCrate did a series of special paperback editions of classics, and this was one of them. The paperbacks aren't GREAT quality, but I think they're such intriguing covers. 1w

I got slightly confused and read November's #ChristieCapers book instead of October's 😂 I love Tommy and Tuppence, and the concept here is fun. However, this one always falls a little flat for me because I'm just not familiar enough with the classic detectives Christie references throughout the book. Still, some of the mysteries are quite good, and I do love the way Christie spoofs Hercule Poirot at the end.

I didn‘t realize this was out of print when I picked it to read this month. I finally tracked it down and I‘m glad I did. The short stories in this collection were creepy and unsettling in the best possible way. My favorites were the one about the misunderstood vampire and the murdering baby.

AnnCrystal A Ray Bradbury book that has gone out of print! Yikes 📚💝📚. 1w
Bookwormjillk @AnnCrystal I think he intentionally let this one go out of print because he re-wrote some of the stories for a different book. From what I read it sounded like his choice. 1w
AnnCrystal Thanks @Bookwormjillk that's good to know 🆒📚☺️👍🏼💝. 1w

I wanted to re-read this one before I start the latest in the series. I liked this one more than the last few in the series. Hoping for more Three Pines in the next one.

I read this graphic novel every Halloween when I‘m waiting for trick or treaters. It has great illustrations and touches on Halloween and other holidays and family issues and grief. But it does it all in a natural and fun way.

I didn‘t realize this was a kids book when I put it on hold at the library, but I read it anyway. And so did everyone who came into my house over the last few weeks. It was such a fun and interesting book! Great illustrations and informative text. We might need to go on a spooky lake road trip.

Chelsea.Poole Love the spooky lakes videos! So entertaining but educational! 1w

3.5/5

Jess finds an injured boy alone in the woods and takes him into her home, but he seems to know things he couldn't possibly know. This was a very creepy and unsettling read.
