Murder at the House of Rooster Happiness
Murder at the House of Rooster Happiness | David Casarett
18 posts | 11 read | 18 to read
Meet Ladarat Patalung - the first and only nurse detective in Thailand. Two nights ago, a young woman brought her husband into the emergency room of the Sriphat Hospital in Thailand, where he passed away. A guard thinks she remembers her coming in before, but with a different husband - one who also died. Ladarat Patalung, for one, would have been happier without a serial murderer-if there is one -- loose in her hospital. Then again, she never expected to be a detective in the first place. And now, Ladarat has no choice but to investigate... The first novel in a captivating new series by David Casarett, M.D.

Mehso-so

Leave it to me to have an #unpopularopinion. I found this just okay and not a series I want to continue. The author took ages to set his scene and build his characters. Much of the first half felt like unnecessary filler. I probably would have bailed on the print version, but the audio narrator wasn‘t terrible. At least it‘s one more off of #MountTBR and is #Thailand for #ReadingAsia2021

Librarybelle Yes - at least this one covered a couple of challenges! 3y
DGRachel @Librarybelle I think I need to stick with #ownvoices books for this challenge. This is the second book set in Asia written by a white man that has been...less than stellar. 3y

Next up for #BookFitnessChallenge Audiobooks. 💕

I‘ve seen this book at Chapters, and I absolutely adore the cover. Never heard of the author, but I‘m sure it‘ll be enjoyable. Definitely another case of #CoversThatPullYouIn

@wanderinglynn

CoverToCoverGirl Great title too! 5y

It took me a little be to get into this book - it‘s not my usual fare. But I did enjoy it and I liked the solution of the mystery.

Still struggling a bit With pronouncing all the Thai words and names, but I‘m working on it. The internet can be a very helpful, wonderful thing!

Doing some #audiocooking on this beautiful Saturday! Hit a farmer‘s market kind of thing today (got all the produce at top right for $10!!) and am cooking up a storm. I‘ve roasted a bunch of stuff and made a few different salsas. My favorite is the mango-lime pico de gallo at bottom left. And my husband is SUPER excited about all the pickles. I‘ve never made pickles before, so 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼.

MissAimz_55 You rock 6y
Tamra Pickles, my favorite! 6y

You know how a book calls out to you from a shelf... This is one such title that grabbed my attention from a library display. It reminded me of Tarquin Hall's Vish Puri series.

Reading beginning chapters, I can only get more excited!! Ladarat Patalung reminds me of Mma Ramotswe, tho former is slightly comical in her reflection.
There's a Clovis Anderson equivalent & as I wondered about Makutsi's counterpart, Sisithorn appears!! #ExcitedBookworm

BookishMe @slhbooks @Tamra you may want to get acquainted with this ethical nurse Detective 😉😉 6y
slhbooks @BookishMe Thanks so much! Sounds like it has potential. We all know the world could use more Mma Ramotswes🤗I‘ll be sure to look for it📚 6y
BookishMe @slhbooks amen! Definitely Mma Ramotswe's good sense can never be too much... I don't expect these characters to match up to the Botswana citizens but I think these Thai parallels are going to be fun to know 6y
Tamra @BookishMe thank you for the heads up! 6y
BookishMe @Tamra my pleasure! 6y

#ReadingResolutions ambitious #February #TBR
#febinBooks18
Hope to complete CR - Buzbee & Laxness as well as other ebooks for #FinishingFebruary

The rest are for the reading plans.
Mohd Hanif's book will be this month's book from own collection

If I can complete 3 of the TBR, it will be mission accomplished for the month! Wish me luck 🤞

Anyone read any of these?

Tamra Stacked Fish Can Sing! 6y
BookishMe @Tamra I have been wondering if Icelander writers are meandering storytellers... Reading the tales within the story reminds me of Maeve Binchy but I like Laxness' touch of humour. 6y

There wasn‘t anything too complex to parse through in this sweet little procedural mystery. Likable protagonist, vivid setting. There‘s something that still feels a little icky about a white, American man writing about Asian female passivity culture but you can‘t win ‘em all. 3.5/5

#bookanddessert Okay, but how have I never had Bruster's before? It's the best ice cream ever, and I met a 14 year old pit bull named Baby. She drooled on the back of my husband's leg to say "Hi". That place is magical.

Has anyone read this, yet? There are no reviews on Amazon or Barnes & Noble, but I need to return a book to my local B&N and wanted to exchange it for something a little more diverse than my normal US/UK crime novels. I found this in a search and my local B&N has it in stock. Any input (or other international crime fiction recommendations) would be greatly appreciated!

megt I haven't read this one, but it definitely sounds intriguing! If you want to go to the store with the few options, I've also heard good things about 8y
DGRachel Thanks @megt! That looks like it has great potential. 🤔 8y
LeahBergen Oooo! I've been to Chiang Mai and now I want to read this! 8y
