I love antiheros and this book's antohero MC didn't make an exception. I also liked monastery as setting.

I loved atmosphere, secrets and politics but this book dragged so so badly! Blurp of this book is enough to tell you what happened in this book. This was clearly the first book in the series that's only purpose was to build everything ready for the next installment.

It's been an odd month for me, reading-wise, but at least I've been able to finish my #bookspin pick, a high fantasy story with politics, intrigue, magic, and sort-of-elves. The hero is self-absorbed and broody, but the writing is good enough that I liked it a lot anyway. So much in fact that my doublespin book will just have to wait until I've finished the sequel. @TheAromaofBooks

I picked this one up because of its beautiful cover and because it was advertised as being by a local #colorado author. This one took a while to get into, but as soon as I broke through the slowest part, I fell head over heals with the way magic works in this world, the earth spirits, and the characters that live in Berg‘s bleak world. I don‘t usually read books twice but I did for these. #fantasy #nature #spirit #earthspirit #coloradoauthor

#MarchIntoReading- The Lighthouse Duet by Carol Berg is made up of 'Flesh and Spirit' and 'Breath and Bone'. These two fantasy novels have a really unique magic system, a protagonist addicted to a magical drug, dysfunctional families, angels/fairies, and monks involved in a conspiracy. To say where #Lighthouses come in would be a bit spoilery, but these were good reads.

I feel like I've trudged through bogs to finish this book!
It's a favorite of a friend, so I felt obligated to read the whole thing. The first 150 pg really dragged, then the plot moved in fits and starts. Luckily the last 150 pg flowed much faster, and there was a lot of intrigue and excitement.
Valen has been hiding from family responsibility for ages, and when life starts catching up, he is short on options. 3 of 5 🌟.
