I loved this book. It let me guessing. And a story of ‘imposters‘ is always so interesting. This was done really well I thought.
I took an early lunch break in my car so I could finish this one ASAP because I‘ve enjoyed it so much. I flew thru it. The short chapters made for great pacing and I loved the flashbacks. I loved Evie‘s POV: her lying and thievery was a blast to read. Huge shoutout to her sidekick Devon, who was my favorite character. Lots of fun twists. I see why it was hyped so much when it came out, although that hype is what made me wait so long to read it.
Two-thirds thru. I‘ve inhaled this one. Really enjoying it!
A twisty game of cat-and-mouse where you‘re not always sure who is doing the hunting.
This was a very fun read. I plan to check out more books by this author.
Another successful in person Book Club meetup, discussing the tagged book! Scored a swap that I know so many on Litsy are raving about, as well as two used bookstore finds for under $10. 📚💖💪🏻
Book Club pick finished! I found this one pretty clunky - rather than building a compelling mystery, so much is just held back til the last few pages like a giant gotcha. Also the MC? What the heck you doin‘, girl? So many elements took me right out of it. Still hoping it‘ll lead to a rousing discussion on Sunday, tho. 🤷🏻♀️🤣🫣

While I wished this one had a bit more thriller aspects, I did enjoy the view of a con from the con artist‘s perspective. #IgnoranceIsBliss when the female MC is on the case, hiding her true intentions from her marks. There were a couple of twists that I did suspect and others I did not. Overall, a quick, fun read. #BBRC #Adult
Gripping, twisty and entertaining. Brilliant storytelling. Clever and scheming characters. Well worth a read or listen!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a fun, twisty little cat and mouse thriller. Sometimes you just need to do one of these to lighten the mood.
There are twists and turns and alot of likeable characters in this thst you root for. Although it‘s a bit far watched in places, doesn‘t make it any less fun.
I spent most of the book trying to decide if Evie was a protagonist or antagonist and the twists and turns throughout kept me engaged and not wanting to put it down. What a rollercoaster but so fun (and not scary for me because I‘m a baby)!
Overall, an entertaining listen. It had a good pace and I listened to it in one day.
This was fine, I did like the concept, but the characters felt a little flat. 3⭐️
Soft pick.
I felt it read a little more like YA even though all characters were adults (Evie presented young). I‘ve read a few other books with similar twists so I knew what was coming although I wasn‘t sure how exactly it would play out. Overall it was still an enjoyable, quick read.

Halfway through this one and it is so good! #reesebookclubpick
I read 8 books in February. My favorite book (and only 5 star) of the month was First Lie Wins. ❤️
My biggest disappointment was The Perfect Girlfriend. I love the crazy, obsessive stalker trope but this one just seemed too long and drawn out. After it was over, I didn't understand the point of the story anymore. 🙃

First, I love when I read a book and it names places I not only know but have a connection to..my hubby graduated from Clemson University and it‘s only 15 minutes from my hometown so we go there a lot. Secondly, this book gets mixed reviews but as you can tell by my rating I absolutely loved this cat and mouse thriller!!👍🏼
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoyed this one! Thrillers can tend to become repetitive, but I enjoyed the cat and mouse aspect of this one. I certainly didn‘t know who to trust! But not embarrassed to admit I didn‘t quite understand the very ending 😅 I think I get it, but whatever! I recommend!

This is a wholly entertaining but largely forgettable thriller that I can already barely remember despite listening to it today. I was all in during the listen, though, which is what I was looking for, it‘s definitely cinematic so it fits as a Reese pick.
Woohoo! New weekend, new book! 📚 Let‘s goooo! 🤓
My usual thriller reads have angry partners and the mess they‘ve created. This one is on such a larger scale and gave me spy-thriller vibes (but much better). It all starts with a lie and you gotta hang on for the ride to see what‘s the truth!
This book is a good fit for those seeking a thrilling and mysterious tale of self-discovery, where a young woman must navigate a complex web of lies and secrets to find her true identity.
Everything she is about to tell them is a lie...
Evie Porter has everything a girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a picket fence, a fun group of friends.
The only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist.
My favorite read so far this year! Full of twists and surprises ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I hate to be a book grump, but I did not get on with this thriller at all. Should have bailed, but I got far enough in where I felt like I might as well finish. Lots of telling, not enough showing. I did a lot of eye-rolling. I don‘t know, I just didn‘t care and found it all more annoying than fun.
Lots of readers (including Reese Witherspoon) felt otherwise so don‘t let me deter you. #BOTM
⭐️⭐️⭐️ A nice departure from the over-saturated market of domestic thrillers. Fast-paced is a plus, but combined with a nonlinear timeline and several aliases, and it was a little confusing at times. Not a problem, just an observation. Entertaining enough, but didn‘t live up to the hype for me. Over the top, but perhaps the most unbelievable part was the love story.
I really had fun with my January #BOTM pick! This thriller makes for a fast read with a twisting plot of fake identities, crime, missions and uncovering truths. The main character & narrator draws you in from the start— honestly this was practically a one-sitting read for me! While I guessed a few of the plot‘s turns, there are some real surprises, too! And while the characters may be a bit shady, they‘re likable & hooked me in from start to end!
Elston did a good holding my interest and creating unexpected turns. Well written. Minimal foul language throughout. Narrator inflection played on the authors words keeping me on the edge of my seat!
2024 is shaping up to be very interesting. I typically drop dangling points on the stars of my mystery and thrillers. But two grids in and thrillers are winning my grids!
5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Avg C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F
My first ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read of the year.
So many twists, turns, aliases, and back stabbing! A great thriller with a different style - I listened on audio and followed along with the book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think this will be a breakout thriller of 2024! It‘s chock-full of action and surprises and the payoffs are smart and satisfying. The protagonist is such a badass. Fingers crossed Reese adapts this one for the screen! #BOTM #reesesbookclub
4.5⭐
This is a great little con artist story…it has an interesting storyline…that may require some suspension of belief but if you can manage that and the somewhat slow-burn pacing…this ends up being rather fun. The narration by Saskia Maarleveld was sufficient…technically she is an excellent narrator but for me, personally, I‘m not a fan of her tone.
This was a smart cat and mouse story. One you don't realize is being played on you as well. It was very well done. There were parts that I felt I had to get through to get to the other side, but it made it a slower read for me.
My goodness! This thriller is one of the best I‘ve read in a long time! It grabbed me from the first page and kept me guessing! I‘ve told every person I‘ve seen in the last few days about this book and the ending was just as satisfying as the beginning. I don‘t want to say much, but this Southern girl is smart, cunning, and trying to stay one step head of the bad guy, her boss. #BOTM #BookspinBingo #JoyousJanuary
The whole town is a sheet of ice, day 4 🥶😂
Read this whole book, working on A Single Thread for book club (which I doubt will happen because more ice is predicted overnight). The bed was made and a lot of laundry and dishes done. Baked cookies and frozen pizzas, have clearly NOT brushed my hair or put on zipper pants, lots of kitty time and some yoga. I‘m in my element and my husband has gone stir crazy. 🤪
If a cover is going to picture a darkened house lit up only by that eerie orangey-yellow window, I need lots of unexpected unputdownable twists and turns. Boy, does this one deliver!
I‘m #currentlyreading FIRST LIE WINS and it‘s a twisty good one!
Evie Porter gets sent on a job that might be her last.
Cat and Mouse ✨ Alias ✨ Betrayal
An average thriller that is overhyped.
