Thank you very much, Catie! I can't wait to learn more about Simu Liu. I loved him in Shang-Chi and he's my favorite Ken in Barbie. I've already broken into the Kitkats; they're delicious! Thank you for the lovely card! I hope your holiday season is full of joy and peace, too. Happy Jolabokaflod! #Jolabokaflodswap

I quite enjoyed listening to Simu Liu narrate his memoir. His story is interesting and very honest. His relationship with his parents seems very complicated, but it appears to have evolved into a much more loving and supportive one. If you think Liu's success came easily, think again. He takes us through his trials and tribulations but also acknowledges his good fortune. An entertaining read. 4/5⭐️

UwannaPublishme How have I not heard of this memoir? I must check it out! 9mo
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme I think you‘d enjoy it! I found his journey to stardom interesting. The fact that he narrated his own book was thoroughly engaging. I really enjoy memoirs when the authors read their story!☺️ 9mo

May 13, 2023 Another memoir for ya! This book is exactly like Publishers Weekly stated, "This real-life hero's journey is a knockout". TRUE Simu Liu really goes in detail about his parents, their life with him, and then his life with them. He discusses the hurdles he had to go through through various stages of his life and how he felt as an Asian American. Well done Simu

May 10, 2023 I am on page 167 out of 285. That is more than halfway. An interesting thing I learned about Simu Liu is that he became an Abrecrombie & Fitch model. Remember those days?! I remember it very clearly. Whenever I went to the mall and passed by the store, I was hit with a strong scent of clogne. I mean, it smelled good but was very STRONG.

May 8, 2023 OMG Ya'll... I bought this book yesterday and I am already on page 102 (Chapter 9). Simu Liu (the guy from ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings wrote a memoir. A very captivating one to be exact! He talks about his grandparents and how they raised him before he met his parents. His parents were foreign to him and he had to adjust to life as a youngster just like they had to adjust to life in America. They moved from China to Canada

Although I like Simu Liu's acting, I was at first doubtful that this celebrity memoir, written at a relatively young age, would have much to offer. I ended up being surprised by how much it made me think about the immigrant experience, parenting, goals and expectations. I would definitely recommend this book.

Firstly I'm shocked at how he still talks nice about his parents after the immense abuse they dished out.
Secondly the ending dragged on a bit.
Was overall a good read.

I do agree with him when he said he hasn't worked enough to warrant a memoir- worthy life but we got a book anyway

I have had the laziest of lazy Saturday's today.
Me and Rudi are having some quality time (we have been a bit off lately with him biting and attacking)
We have not gotten out of bed today we have enjoyed naps, LOADS of reading and coffee.

We are Dreamers by Simu Liu
I don't know how he can still talk about his parents with such soft tones after what they done to him.

This was right up my alley because my fave celeb bios are the ones that stray from the norm. Simu had a very different background from most Hollywood actors and I loved hearing about his childhood in China, his parents' struggles to get to this country, and his life in Canada before he made a name for himself. He can be a bit cocky sometimes but not above pointing out his flaws. I highly recommend the audio, he has a great voice for narrating 🥰

I‘m convinced I could listen to anything narrated by Simu Liu. He is a good storyteller with a fantastic reading voice. Many moments were relatable, emotional or humorous. I‘d like to hear more stories from him as I‘m sure he will have many more to tell as his career takes off.

Listening while building a Lego Haunted House today ❤️ I was a bit skeptical when this came out right after his big Marvel movie but I‘m glad I ignored that
This a a great book and fantastic on audio. His relationship with his parents as a teen was ROUGH. He went to Uni in my city, I quite enjoyed his tales about his time here.
It‘s a front row seat look at how children of immigrants can really struggle on all fronts 😢

This book gave me all the Asian-American feels and I definitely relived some painful childhood memories reading this. It also made me really miss my grandmother. This book is incredibly thoughtful, intelligent, honest, raw, and uplifting. Simu's story is every Asian-hyphen kid caught between impossible parental expectations and their own dreams. He also had some of the best job interview advice I've come across. Where was he when I was 21?

Simu‘s story is uplifting, heartbreaking, and told with an energy befitting the hyperactive star of Kim‘s Convenience and Shang-Chi! Excellent!

Simu Liu tells his story and that of his parents and grandparents with honesty, grace, and humour. The book is perfectly structured in three acts. Recommended even if you‘ve never seen Shang-Chi or Kim‘s Convenience.

kwmg40 Haven't seen Shang-Chi yet but I loved Kim's Convenience, as well as Simu Liu's short stint as a Martian in The Expanse! Looking forward to reading this book. 2y
rabbitprincess @kwmg40 I loved Shang-Chi! Going to read the play of Kim‘s Convenience before watching the show. 2y

Thanks for the #Two4Tuesday tag, @QuietlyLaura !

1. It‘s a memoir and the cover features a photo of the author, so I‘m gonna say yes.

2. Nope. I picked it up because I‘m a big memoir reader in general and I had such an awesome experience with Elton John‘s autobiography that I‘m now more inclined to seek out memoirs by celebrities. (This was a good ‘un, though I wish he‘d said more about how he reconciled with his parents.)

Lreads Thanks for playing! ☺️ 2y
BiblioLitten I absolutely loved Elton John‘s book. I still think about it sometimes. 2y
xicanti @BiblioLitten it was my surprise hit last summer. I never expected to love it so much. 2y
BiblioLitten Me neither since I haven‘t really listened to many of his songs or followed his career. I wanted to read Dolly Patron‘s book too. Have you read it? 2y
xicanti @BiblioLitten not yet, but it‘s on my list! She seems like a really cool person, from what little I already know of her. 2y

And, out of nowhere, I‘m completely exhausted. Gonna try to perk myself up with a cappuccino and this awesome memoir. Simu Liu tells his story with a great sense of timing and plenty of empathy, even when things get really dark for his family. I normally dip in and out of nonfiction, but I‘m gonna read this one straight through.

(I‘m bummed he‘s embraced the American grade nicknames thing, though. Simu! You were doing so well!)
