The Girls in the Stilt House: A Novel | 
pickA historical fiction set in the swamps of Mississippi during the 1920s. Ada and Matilda both have lives filled with different yet difficult experiences. Their lives bring them together for a few seasons. Both these teenagers had personalities which I feel the reader could find interesting. Lots of other characters were of interest and entwined throughout the novel. 4/5⭐️
so-soI think I would have liked this book better if it wasn‘t for me reading “Where the Crawdads Sing” first. I feel like I was comparing the two too much. There is still something about southern marsh novels and southern lit that just hits different for me. I feel like I can‘t get enough of them and really enjoy them!

Currently enjoying for F2F bookclub.
pickThe dual storylines of Ada and Matilda in 1920s Mississippi is sometimes hard to read, but I enjoyed reading about one of my favorite time periods from a completely different perspective. These girls have to work together to survive the harsh realities of life. Would like to read more from this author. The audiobook/narrator was well-done. 4⭐️

I am a sucker for books set in the South. Fans of Where the Crawdads Sing will enjoy this one. The tales of two girls, both different, yet more similar than they realize, is woven together beautifully in this book.

The Girls in the Stilt House is a novel about two girls trying to escape the harsh, dangerous-for-girls' conditions in the Mississippi swamps in the 1920s. Organized so that each character's story is told separately prior to their shared story, contributed to it only becoming compelling half-way through. The characters could have been more likable, especially Matilda. I won't jump on Mustian's next novel. 3.5 stars
I didn‘t get a bingo, but I read some very interesting books in April. I think my favorites for the month were our #LitsyBookClub read The Girls in the Stilt House and Paulsen‘s memoir Gone to the Woods.
