Pattyn Von Stratten is searching for the love she isnt getting from God or her family in this novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins. It all started with a dream. Just a typical fantasy, but for a girl raised in a religiousand abusivefamily, a simple dream could be the first step toward eternal damnation. Now Pattyn Von Stratten has questions. Questions about God, and sex, and mostly love. Will she ever find it? Pattyn experiences the first stirrings of passion, but when her father catches her in a compromising position, events spiral out of control. Pattyn is sent to live with an aunt in the wilds of rural Nevada to find salvation and redemption. What she finds instead is love and acceptance, and for the first time she feels worthy of bothuntil she realizes that her old demons will not let her go. Those demons lead Pattyn down a path to hellnot to the place she learned about in sacrament meetings, but to an existence every bit as horrifying. In this gripping and masterful novel told in verse, Ellen Hopkins embarks on an emotional journey that ebbs and flows. From the highs of true love to the lows of loss and despair, Pattyns story is utterly compelling. You wont want this story to endbut when it does, you can find out whats next for Pattyn in the sequel, Smoke.

This was another solid choice from Ellen Hopkins. I‘m quite the fan so I cannot imagine ever leaving a negative review.

Unfortunately now I have reached the point where I compare her works of literature and was this her best? No.

But this was much, much better than some other pieces of fiction I have read!

Again, I love the format and style.

LoverOfLearning Loved these books when I was younger! I have 2 of them in my bookshelf! I love the writing style. 3w

Love this author so much.

Just look at that writing style and prose -

“She looked as if she might disappear.”

Read between the lines.

Ellen Hopkins will always be my true #1, but aside from her my “favourite” authors can really fluctuate depending on what I‘m into at the moment. These are some of my current favourite female authors. #MyTop5 @4thhouseontheleft

TheBookHippie Ellen Hopkins!!!! 5mo
4thhouseontheleft Mary Higgins Clark...I haven't read her books in years! My step-grandmother loved her books, I used to sit in my grandpa's office and read them every time we visited them. 😍 5mo
Clwojick @TheBookHippie right?! She‘s the only author that I hold onto after I read. All other books get passed on. ♥️ 5mo
Clwojick @4thhouseontheleft So good! Love a good murder mystery 😍 If you like her, definitely check out Joy Fielding! Specifically Mad River Road, The Deep End, and Whispers and Lies 5mo
TheBookHippie @Clwojick I read them all with my daughter we started years ago when she was in 8th grade. Now she‘s 29 we still read them. So good! I can always get teens to read her! 5mo

This book was pretty good. i thought it was a little slow after she moved to her aunts house, but then it got better, with twists and turns. honestly i would recommend this book but it‘s not one of her best books.

This is an amazing story of religion, love, loss, and just life in general. I absolutely love Ellen Hopkins, I have never gotten tired of reading and rereading her books. This is the third time I‘ve read this book, and I‘m sure I‘ll read it again in the future.

If I was held at gunpoint and had to choose my ONE favourite book from Ellen Hopkins, I would have to say Burned. Though I truly believe everyone should read them all, if I could only suggest one, it would be this.

Sace Oooo. I've got two black and white stray kittens I've been feeding. I've been calling them Sylvester 1 and 2, but I may steal Oreo. So much faster to say. 2y
Mariposa_Bookworm @RestlessFickleBookSlut The lady I got him from named him and I just kept it. He's round like an Oreo cookie. Hee hee! 2y
Lmstraubie So sweet. We have a black & white cat who was originally named Oreo. My son chose to rename her Pouncer. However she ours is round like an Oreo too!!? 😅 2y

I'm not a huge fan of writing in verse, so this one was a little iffy for me, but the story was enjoyable and I really felt bad for the main character. However, the ending was a little...off, so I couldn't enjoy it fully.
