An Affair Before Christmas
An Affair Before Christmas | Eloisa James
32 posts | 30 read | 15 to read
Magic under the mistletoe . . . One spectacular Christmas, Lady Perdita Selby, known to her friends and family as Poppy, met the man she thought she would love forever. The devilishly attractive Duke of Fletcher was the perfect match for the innocent, breathtakingly beautiful young Englishwoman, and theirs was the most romantic wedding she had ever seen. Four years later, Poppy and the duke have become the toast of the ton . . . but behind closed doors the spark of their love affair has burned out. Unwilling to lose the woman he still lusts after, the duke is determined to win back his beguiling bride's delectable affections . . . and surpass the heady days of first love with a truly sinful seduction.

I quite enjoyed this! Although I actually liked the secondary characters (Gemma, Charlotte, and V.A.) better than the hero and heroine who I found a bit insipid. I think what really sold me on this was the wit. I found the dialogue really witty and funny. My first Eloisa James book, but it certainly won't be my last! #Romantsy

I love romances imvolving married couples. Can reserved, uptight Poppy, and desperate, lonely Fletch fall back in love? The Georgian era, Christmas time setting fit my mood and made this book a lovely read.

I am LOVING this so far. It's my first Eloisa James book. (I had tried another one on audio but couldn't keep the characters straight and didn't like the narrator's voice). Glad I tried this one! Plus, seasonal appropriateness. #Romantsy

Ice hung from windowsills with a glitter that rivaled glass,& new snow turned the sooty streets to rivers of milk. Looking at the city from the bell tower of Saint Germain, the Duke of Fletcher could see candles flaring in store windows,& though he couldn‘t smell roasting goose, holly leaves & gleaming berries over doors signaled that all of Paris had turned its mind toward a delicious #banquet of gingerbread & spice, of rich wine & sugared cakes.

Started reading this today. It‘s not quite Christmas in the book yet but it‘s still winter here. You can‘t tell but it‘s very windy and the rocks are covered in ice from the waves. #DuluthMN #winterisstillhere

Interesting article about consent in different romance genres in the random PW I picked up this morning. I finished the tagged book over the holiday and it was pretty cute. I'm officially a #romancy reader now.

Fun to listen to Christmas-time sexy shenanigans in the snow while walking through another sunny December day in California.

Melissa_J I‘m quite envious of the warm temperature this picture conveys 😊 6y
leslieisreading @Melissa_J it‘s about mid-50s. I actually kept my puffy jacket on for the whole walk! Its nothing compared to a real winter, but I have very little cold tolerance. 😆 6y

I‘m seven books from reading 150 this year (best year ever!). Picked this up after finishing Crazy Rich Asians last night (so good). So, romance novel and Olympic trials before going to see Star Wars! #romantsy

Somehow I missed book 2 in this series! I loved this one (and read it in one sitting). I loved how Poppy grew through the book and Fletch was just a great hero. I think Charlotte is my favorite character though. #romantsy #historicalromance

EloisaJames Thank you!! This book is a reader love or hate book because of Villiers. I'm hugely fond of Poppy and I treasure every compliment she gets. 😘😘 7y

?⭐❤?? Poppy & Fletch were lovely but what I really liked how this was more like a soap opera with multiple storylines. Villiers & Charlotte are vastly entertaining. "'You're too unpleasant to die,' she said sharply. 'If you're not careful, I'll marry you while you're in a fever and then take all your money.' He stopped looking so dismal, and laughed a bit, though it made him wheeze." #romantsy #osrbc

Another fun listen. Eloisa James has a way of writing antagonists that I truly despise, but won't make me abandon the story because of.

Book two did not disappoint! I blew through it - fell asleep last night with 70 pages to go. I am really enjoying getting to know the characters. So on to book three - I guess I am having a Desperate Duchesses marathon before the new year.

I do love a good romance novel & this one certainly fits the bill. I liked that we got to see Poppy & Fletcher's romance continue bloom after they walked down the aisle. What I liked even more was that Poppy discovered more of herself & her desires & that she had Fletch's love & support through it all. Definitely puts me into the Christmas season. I do really want to know who Charlotte chooses though. Someone point me in that direction, please.

EloisaJames I would be the one to do that! She chooses a soldier... did I put it in a novella? Argh. The next book is Duchess by Night--may be in there. Not Villiers--his book is A Duke of her Own. #forgetfulauthor but so glad you liked it!! 7y

EloisaJames Well, I certainly hope you like it--it's a love or hate book. (After 25 books I pretty much lost ego over them) 7y
