My #blackcat wanted in with the #blackstack. Nerd. I was really digging this book up until the last two chapters & then I was kinda pissed. Before that though, I thought it was very twisty & I kept finding myself second-guessing my hunches. I was sucked in by the storyline of a kidnapped baby while her parents were next door. If the ending hadn't been so unnecessary? Maybe? this would have been a solid pick but as is it's a soft pick for me. ⭐⭐⭐💫

Wow, I didn't think I'd read this in one sitting,. But here we are. I started this around 12pm.and at 11pm I am finished and it was a wild ride, there were so many twists and turns I did not see coming. Wild. Great story. The writing felt a bit choppy to me, but overall, it was well done.

smalldogs_bigbooks2419 The ability to read for that long and not fall asleep, or get otherwise distracted, has got to be some sort of superpower. I definitely don‘t have it, and I‘m quite envious of anyone that does. 🤯 2mo

Excellent book! I was hoping it wasn‘t overhyped but it stood strong. I loved how we kept getting pieces about what was going on throughout and the entire story was twisty instead of one big twist at the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was on edge with this domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .

#TheCoupleNextDoor totally reminded me of Madeleine McCain case. A couple goes to dinner next door leaving their 6 months old daughter behind while she is asleep. They take rounds coming back home and making sure she is alright. And then she is not. She is kidnapped. What happens next is a lot of twists and turns. It keeps you glued to the book till the end. A good mystery read.
My rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A couple leaves their baby home while they're at a dinner party next door, & even though they check on her every 1/2 hour, she's missing when they return. All the characters are hard to like, & they're all possibly the culprit. This book was twisty & suspenseful, but some of it was hard to swallow - while I love a book where nothing is as it seems & everyone's a suspect, this one may have taken it a bit too far for me. Still, an entertaining read.

KathyWheeler I have an issue with the premise. I haven‘t read the book, but I would never have left either of my babies home alone even just to go next door. I would‘ve gotten a babysitter. 7mo
BookDragonNotWorm @KathyWheeler I agree completely! Even though it was an important plot point - that they'd had a babysitter who canceled, and were 'only' going next door in an attached row house, I still thought it was unbelievable. 7mo
KathyWheeler @BookDragonNotWorm Yeah, if my babysitter canceled on me, I‘d have stayed home. Being in another house than your baby, even if it‘s attached and you check on the baby frequently, is just too problematic. 7mo

I was disappointed in this book. I liked the other two thrillers of hers that I had read so much. But this portrayed the mom's issues in a way that I believe to be inaccurate and leads to harmful misconceptions about certain difficulties. If it weren't for those glaring errors, it would have been a good book.

💛💛💛 I'm really undecided whether I liked this book or not. It relied on the husband being a massive moron to approach the situation as he did and just seemed all far fetched and ridiculous. On the other hand it was fast paced and did keep my interest in how it would all play out.

ilanakeukake I see what you mean about the husband being a moron, but he was also desperate, right? When people are desperate & scared they do stupid things. & that husband was REALLY desperate. 6mo
Danielle145 Yeah definitely desperate but super far fetched at times! 6mo

I don't normally gravitate towards books that are called "domestic suspense" thrillers that tend to involve a horrible couple with horrible secrets. But the plot sounded interesting so i gave this a shot. There is nothing likable about any of the characters here but I guess that was the point. I had this at a so-so until the halfway point but I really enjoyed the second half. A good thriller to read in one sitting. 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐?

1 book to go!!

A decent thriller. A baby is kidnapped from her home and in trying to find her, we find that her parents have kept secrets from each other for a long time. Lots of twists and turns, and aspects of the plot may be far-fetched, but really, probably not too much so.

⭐️⭐️ • A fast-moving plot with zero complexity. The twists are not hinted at, they‘re just stated, which is so boring. By no means good writing, but getting two stars for a satisfying ending and for being the brainless read I apparently needed right now.

This thriller kicks off the action in chapter 1 & it's go-go-go until the end. I read every chance I could. I predicted the kidnapper early on, but I was still curious to understand the why. However, the why/how seemed far-fetched & there were a lot of reveals in the last chapters that were just shock value & didn't add any depth.
Compulsively readable, and great for anyone who loves fast-paced, plot-driven books and can suspend disbelief.

A young mother who suffers from disasociative disorder loses her baby to a kidnapping. As any mother would, she blames herself. She is the only character I can show sympathy. The other suspects are full of blame for other people. What if... What if... What if...A riveting read!

Thinking that she would give me a children's title, I asked my dear friend, an elementary school librarian, for her recommendation. Ha!

This was a page turner for about 80% of the book. There were lots of twists and turns, ups and downs; points where I thought I knew where the author was going and then...boom! Another twist.

Sadly, the descend was a let-down. It wasn't particularly bad, just boring and predictable; as if the author gave up. Or, maybe, since it started out on a high, I was expecting it to end on high. Isn‘t it fair to have those expectations, though?🤷🏾‍♀️

Upstate New York - Baby Cora was kidnapped while her parents, Anne and Marco Conti, were visiting their neighbors, Cynthia and Graham. Suspicion falls on the parents. Det. Rasbach knows they are hiding something. The couple do have secrets they‘ve kept for years. I loved this book as many twists and turns led to a very surprising ending. I‘m looking forward to another book by Lapena and highly recommend this book to those who love thrillers.
