Tristans Nana has got a very straightforward point. Here darker stories told them better, it sounds. This books is a great educational one for me; I know their stories as people, not gods as they are in this book. I love it! Also, liking Gum Baby more then I thought I would. #RiordanPresents

Starting this tonight as I continue to patiently wait for my daughter to finish book six of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. I‘m holding to my promise of staying two books behind but it‘s getting difficult.

I went to Murder Mystery night at BN last night. It was fun. Replaced my copy of the tagged book. My puppy ate the last chapter off my galley when I was disposed be using it for LMPBC last round. So now I have a fresh I chewed copy.

Chrissyreadit One thing your #bbrc and #booked2019 has done has really opened my eyes to the lack of diversity in my reading- and in popular books from my lifetime. 1mo
LibrarianRyan @Chrissyreadit I get it. I see it in my own readings. The number of POC books we read as children were few and far between, and most were about how hard it was being a POC like Roll of Thunder... instead of fantastic adventures. I am so excited to read this. I was heart broken when Demon got to my copy. 1mo

Just want to say...when you have 4th graders in the library and the room is so quiet you could hear a pin drop, you know you‘re reading them a good book. Love it when that happens and love sending this book home with an excited reader. Can‘t wait to hear what they think!

Three chapters in & I knew I had to stop reading this book. Why you ask?!? Because it is super fun, awesome & amazing (which our students could tell you I say when I really like a book)!!! And while I could keep reading it—& will at some point—I decided I needed to get it into the hands of a young reader. Like now. So I‘m going to preview it for fourth grade today & send it home with a lucky reader. Such a fun read...might have to get my own!

Pickpick

Thanks to Partner NetGalley for the digital ARC of Kwame Mbalia‘s Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky in exchange for an honest review. The book releases Tuesday, October 15.⠀

Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky begins with Rick Riordan‘s introduction asking, (continued in comments)

UnabridgedPod “Can you imagine what it would be like if you could find a book that wove the whole brilliant, beautiful tapestry of West African and African American legend into one magical world?” (loc. 48). This, of course, is that novel. ⬇️ 1mo
UnabridgedPod Kwame Mbalia‘s middle-grade book is a gorgeous, exciting, moving account of Tristan Strong‘s discovery of another world, one where John Henry, Brer Fox, and Gum Baby join together to fight the Fetterlings, manacle-like creatures that threaten the people of MidPass. Mbalia threads allusions to African-American history throughout the novel, providing threats that have haunted black history into the present. ⬇️ 1mo
UnabridgedPod Though I can sum things up by saying I loved this novel, you can read the rest of my review at unabridgedpod.com. (edited) 1mo

Dear #LMPBC

I need to choose a new book. My puppy took advantage of me being sick to to steal my book and sleeve off my lap when I fell asleep. Besides chewing the dragonfly off my new sleeve she chewed the last 2 chapters of this book up. Unfortunately I can not just go get a new copy as it‘s not out til October.

I‘ll look through my collection and see what might be similar. I‘m sorry for this. Please forgive me.

Ddzmini Awe 🙌🏽🐶📖😋 5mo
julesG Your puppy has a good taste in books. Literally. 😖😵😠 5mo
Johanna414 Oh no! Tricky puppy! No worries, I‘m sure you‘ll find something good to replace it 5mo

LibrarianRyan @julesG she was fixed last week and has almost stopped chewing. She even got a hold of a roll of TP and all she did was in roll it. I guess this is her way of saying I should be playing with her. 🤨 5mo
LibrarianRyan @julesG I lied. She has been chewing on this bar of glycerine soap. I have taken it away a few times. 5mo

Sarahreadstoomuch Oh puppy!! 5mo
IndoorDame No problem :-) Good luck with puppy training! 5mo
LeahBergen Oh no! 5mo
SW-T Puppies 🐶 🙄 She‘ll outgrow the chewing eventually. Takes time...I remember all the stuff my sweetie chewed up. We had chew toys in every room too, but if it could be reached it could be chewed 😳 Have you tried Bitter Apple spray? That helped us. 5mo
Chrissyreadit Someday I hope you will laugh about the puppies antics. Hope you are also feeling better. 5mo
Crazeedi Puppies do their thing! Hope you're feeling much better! I sent my package, and I have another book to put in mail when I get home Sunday! 5mo
LibrarianRyan @SW-T we tried it. She likes it. 🤨 my weird dog. 5mo
merelybookish No worries on my end! I trust you judgement. (Puppy has good taste! ) 5mo
Jee_HookedOnBookz Awwww sorry about the book and book sleeve! 😞 And hope you feel better soon! ❤️ 5mo

Okay ladies. In the selection we have a

realistic contemporary: Coyote Summer
Realistic historical: She Loves you
Magical realism: diary at the edge of the world.

All female protagonists.

Would anyone mind a galley? Own voices African American folk tale based, male protagonist? The actual version isn‘t out until Oct. it‘s hotly anticipated and had its pub date moved up.

I can pick something if this isn‘t cool. I have 3 other contenders

IndoorDame Looks fun. I‘m in. 5mo
merelybookish I like it! 5mo
Trashcanman What's this all mean? 5mo

LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman it‘s #lmpbc round 6 #groupM. I asked the ladies to choose their books first, and I would suggest something not already represented. Therefore, male lead, poc, full fantasy. 5mo
Trashcanman I can't think straight. I'm sorry 5mo
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman if your interested in joining a group @MaleficentBookDragon is looking for some interested in doing a #creaturefeature. You pick a book and your group swaps annotated copies over 4 months. At the end you get your own book back. One book a month for 4 months. @Suvata runs it. There are some other groups open as well including light nonfiction. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080444aead2ca0ff2-litsy6 5mo
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman no need to be sorry. We all get a little brain dead. Plus I love playing teacher. Ask away. 5mo
Trashcanman @LibrarianRyan I would fail at this. I have once and it just made me feel bad about myself. So that's why no swaps or stuff like book clubs or stuff. I just did the #bfc because I'd only family myself or let myself down. And that I am used to. 5mo
Trashcanman *fail myself 5mo
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman hey I bet you won‘t fail our personal challenge. And I have to say I‘m looking forward to it. No pressure. I‘ll let the lending library do that. 5mo
Johanna414 Yes please! I can‘t wait for this one! 5mo
LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 @indoordame @merelybookish we are set! Yeah. I‘ll make a graphic and put it up for our leader. 5mo
