I liked the premise, a girl-genius 16-year-old doctor falls for one of her cancer patients. This was a fast read, and it did have the sad element of kids with cancer but also had sweet moments. It was just okay - I didn‘t love it or hate it.

I had a hard time with this book because the main character Saira annoyed the hell out of me. She is known as the kid genius because she started college at 12 studying for her medical degree. I get that she is 16 and she didn‘t have a normal childhood so she can‘t really handle social situations with grace but it was a little annoying how rude she was. She did improve in the end and all the food mentioned made me so hungry!

I didn‘t love the premise (teen doctor) or a lot of choices and decisions the Main character made. But there were a bunch of moments I enjoyed.

I expected a cutesy-wutesy contemporary but you won't find that here. Real world drama lies in these pages, and one character I wanted to smack silly. I was a little lost on some of the language and cultural references that weren't explained well if at all. It felt unnecessarily long with some lulls in pacing. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars. Not terrible but not memorable either.

My possible #BOTM picks. I‘ve been trying to slowly get past #BOTM books that have been on my #TBR pile. Buuuut I may go with someth else if someone says I should get X because Y.

The_Heeler_Booklife Descendant of the Crane is really good. I highly recommend it. I‘m only 40 pages into The Downstairs Girl and it is good so far. I like the narration of the character. 5y
Booknerd222 Awesome! I‘m exited to get to these two! 5y

For about half of the book, I wanted to smack the protagonist. What was she doing? Why was she making such terrible choices? I was frustrated with the author for letting her character screw up over and over again. Then I realized the author did such a great job of putting me in the world that I was treating the character like a real person, and I thought about how unreasonable it was to ask a 16-year-old to make perfect professional decisions...

suzisteffen and then, even though I didn‘t like a lot of the characters, including Best Friend Lizzie and the main character herself (WHAT a pain in the ass this kid would be), I decided I liked the book pretty well. 4⭐️ (edited) 5y

This is another book that proves to me that I am so over YA. There was a time a place for these books in my life, unfortunately in recent, I don‘t seem to care. Good premise, just totally does not fit what I want to read, it seemed predictable in my opinion.

Saira is a genius and at 16 she has finished med school and is ready to start her job on an pediatric oncology ward. She has wanted to work in this field since she lost a friend at the age of 8 to cancer. But on her first day she meets Link who thinks she is a patient just like him. The more she get to know him the more she likes him. But there is one thing she doesn't know how to deal with, heartbreak. This was a tender rom com! Really enjoyed it

mcipher What a cute cover ♥️ 5y
