If you enjoyed Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls then you may enjoy Bad Girls Throughout History. The illustrations are brilliant and really the main focus of the book, I do love some of them & I'm glad I got the notecards. The passages read a little like Wikipedia intros. The diversity could be stronger as many of the women are American or white, you'll also find some controversial characters in there...*cough*...Thatcher 🤦🏼‍♀️

I loved this book. There were a few I wish would have been included (maybe a Bad Girls pt. 2??). This is good for high school aged girls to read. The real stand out was the artwork, amazing!!!

#BiblioMAYnia Day 30: Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the typography used in this book – the calligraphic font seemed far too common these days, that maybe I was looking for something less #cursive-y for lack of a better term. Regardless, it did not detract from my enthusiasm in lapping up the subversive, tongue-in-cheek, delightfully unapologetic stories in this collection. This is a must-find and a must-own. This is March‘s Ipsy bag. “and off she went to change the world” Ipsy is a monthly make up/ personal care bag, this month it was for National Women‘s History Month! It‘s beautiful and all the products are from Female founded and run companies! I love this bag so much! If you don‘t have it sign up! Use my code https://www.ipsy.com/new?cid=ppage_ref_v2&sid=link&refer=173po6 and we both get points for free things!

Seekingtardis P.S you fill out what you want to receive so you don‘t get things you won‘t use or don‘t like. It‘s only $10 a month and 100% worth it!! 5y
MelissaSue81 I got the same primer and mascara. I really like them both. I also got a highlighter, and eyeshadow which are pretty good. I got a makeup remover balm that I probably won‘t use much.. but the bag is my fave one that I‘ve gotten. 5y

This was a fun, easy read. The illustrations of the women were gorgeous, and the stories were very interesting! I definitely learned about some rad women I had never heard of. My complaint is that I wish there would have been a more even representation of races instead of being majority white women.

A fun diversion: Shen paints and briefly profiles 100 notable women throughout history. Some are well-known, others I have never heard of, but it is fun to Google them. I spent quite a bit of time Googling Hedy Lamarr, whom I knew as a movie star, but not as the inventor of the technology wi-fi is based on. Cool tidbits like that make this a fun book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thanks for the recommendation, @Riveted_Reader_Melissa !

Informative, but largely inessential book about bad ass women throughout history. It is free on Amazon Prime Reading, which is why I checked it out. The biographies are basically Wikipedia-light, and although the accompanying illustrations are nice, most didn‘t really look like the people, in my opinion. Best thing I learned was that Ada Lovelace (computing pioneer) was the only legitimate offspring of Lord Byron!

Reviewsbylola I returned this unread. I loved the illustrations but the blurbs did nothing for me. 6y
Kimberlone @Reviewsbylola I didn‘t even think the illustrations were very good. For the older figures we don‘t have photographic evidence of, they were fine, but the more modern women didn‘t really look anything like people 6y
Reviewsbylola No you‘re right. But they‘re why I initially decided to try the book. 😂 I thought the cover art was so beautiful. Luckily I went the library route because although I do like the style of the portraits, they all have a sameness to them and aren‘t original. I really prefer Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls. You never know what each portrait will look like from page to page! 6y

I really enjoyed these short profiles on ‘Bad Girls‘ and I‘m pretty sure I‘ll be gifting this one a few times in the future. Many I knew, Ruth Bade Ginsburg, Sally Ride, and Malala Yousafzai...some were new to me like Junko Tabei... but I found myself pausing to look up a few and read more, google their artwork, add their books, etc.

Just an FYI...it also includes grown up bad Girls from Gypsy Lee Rose to Bettie Page, as well as ...

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ... leaders of the feminist movements, and icons like Oprah and Maya Angelou who had less than Disney-ified childhoods which include everything from burlesque to abortion, rape to drug use, not to mention shootings and burnings so you may not want to gift this too young or at least not until you‘re willing to have the serious conversations that might result in a realistic look at powerful women and some of the things they‘ve had to overcome. Reminds me of the Women & Power book by Mary Beard (tagged below) that I read earlier this year....about how these early ideas about women being unqualified to speak in public persist, except now are framed as she‘s to shrill, strident, etc, etc to listen too.🙄

Weaponxgirl This made me think of the have I got news for you crap. Or women MPs just aren't putting themselves forward, it's not our fault we don't have them in the show. Why wouldn't she want to be the only woman on a panel of rowdy male comedians? Blah, blah 🙄 6y

Did I mention Judy Blume is awesome? Her book, Forever, was banned from the middle schools in my district. When I started working at my school in 2000, one of the other librarians was organizing a second attempt to get the book back on the shelves. Judy heard about our fight and wrote a letter for us to share with the school board.
