I‘ve been reading this book alongside my last 2-3 reads but didn‘t want to post about it until I was sure whether I liked it or not - it‘s been decided that I don‘t I think I do. I find it too abrupt, rough and crude for my tastes. Which is a shame because the plot is amazing. laurieluna @Andrew65 thanks! 😄 I always marvel at how much I've read during the month as I never feel I've read enough. If I can average around 6/7 a month I'm happy! I think people who hit double figures are machines! 🙌💪 6y
Andrew65 @miralunasbooknook I do hit double figures most months and surprise myself that I do, but still feel I have wasted so much time when I could read. Audiobooks help, especially when commuting, travelling or even waiting for the Chinese take away! Let alone when too tired to physically read books! 6y
laurieluna @Andrew65 I get talked at so much by the toddler that audiobooks would be impossible. Stopping and starting, having to skip back etc. It's also why I rarely watch TV shows! My reading only vastly improved when I cut out distractions (facebook, watching the news etc as they sucked me in and depressed me). So I've read double the amount of books from the same time last year by doing that! 6y

5/5 🌟 all day. So engrossing I even managed to finish it with Mickey Mouse on! There are so many things in this book I usually avoid books for. But then I realised a lot of the fantasy books I read also have things like addiction etc in. If it were a modern setting I think I would have bailed, but it being set in 1869, and Tait's delicate handling of the topics really made this a gripping, and dare I say Feminist read. 👍

vkois88 Lol we watched it too... I am working on tuning it our more and more. Some stuff is just easier than others. I think it would be better if they didn't show the same two episodes of everything over and over! 6y

laurieluna @vkois88 it's great. I highly recommend it. Loads of old classics on there too. The only thing missing is the Marvel and Star Wars films. Hoping they add them soon. 6y

2/3 of the way through in a day.... This book is definitely not for you if you blush easily. Fetishes abound! Such a dark story, I'm hooked. Trigger warns for attempted rape, assault and domestic violence, drug addiction... but they do work as plot devices as much as it pains me to say. I don't usually go for books with plots that use things like that but this book has me so gripped. 😬

laurieluna @DivineDiana the things that happen are really making me hate the perpetrators which I'm sure is the point. The author really goes to lengths to make sure the victims aren't blamed in this. But it is difficult reading regardless. I just hope there is justice in the end. 6y

Sophoclessweetheart I‘m slightly anxious about reading this now. I was so excited and my triggers are child violence/harm - since becoming a mother I can‘t even bare to read such things but generally nothing else puts me off a book... that is nothing except heavy sexual scenes and fetishes like those found in New Adult books and SJM. 😳 So hearing this I‘m anxious now 😬😅 6y
laurieluna @Wanderingwithwords one victim (a maid) is 14/15, and the attempted rape is against her. I think that would have been a bail for me had the book been set now, but it's set during the victorian era and the perpetrator is described in such a way as to appear disgusting in his act. I think it is also Tait's way of writing. She does it well. I do recommend giving it a try, but bail if it gets uncomfortable. After that its all adults. X 6y

laurieluna @Cathythoughts I'm usually put off by books that have 'wife', 'girl', or 'woman' in the titles because there are hardly any that use 'husband', 'boy' or 'man' in the same context. But I like the sound of this enough to let that slide. 6y
