My 4th & probably least favourite Colwin novel so far. Polly has always been a good daughter, good wife, good mother, but an affair with an artist upends all she has believed about herself & her life.
This is hardly new territory and I found Polly's kvetching a bit endless. Plus, she is supremely privileged. Still Colwin always brings such sensitivity to her characters, and the choices they make are nuanced. Her novels are comforting & complex.

This is one of my favorite novels. It's a deep dive into happy domesticity. And adultery. And food. And grownup love, which is complicated. It is also about a woman who is "good" in every objective sense, but in need of a life bigger than making other people happy. It's just lovely.
