Siege and Storm
Siege and Storm | Leigh Bardugo
Darkness never dies. Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can't outrun her past or her destiny for long. The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her--or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm. Siege and Storm is the second book in The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.

I have too much to say for the character limit, but basically I felt let down and annoyed by this book. Alina and Mal have become unbearable to read, the love quadrangle is getting tiresome, and the plot was too drawn out and repetitive. If it weren‘t for the setting and the fact that I feel like there is so much potential for this story I would have given up on this series. I have low expectations for the third book, but will still give it a try.

Second in the Grisha series and the story continues. Another great part of the story developing further the complicated relationships that Alina has. The story was slow to start but I was soon gripped once more and have the third on order. I found myself liking Alina a little more in this. Onto book 3. 4*

emmaturi I have now reading this book. I am loving this series! 3d

I finished the second Grishaverse novel today. The audio book is narrated quite well. I was really happy with a few of the new characters. Nikolai and the twins are great. It is building towards a huge showdown with the Darkling in book three. This was definitely the Empire Strikes Back of the Grishaverse trilogy, but I always liked that as well. Onward to Ruin and Rising!

The second installment of The Shadow and Bone trilogy did not disappoint. This fantasy story continues right where the last book left off, bringing back many of the original characters as well as some new ones. I particularly liked the addition of the character Nikolai. I'm looking forward to the upcoming Netflix adaptation.

We went to Chattanooga, Tennessee for our anniversary yesterday. I got so many great books for under $40. I love that place. It is about 2 hours from my house but I already want to go back. Check out what I purchased. https://readinginthewildwood.com/2020/01/19/chattanooga-book-haul/

Celebrating halftime with ice-cream. #24B42020 @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid @jb72

Book was meh, me thinks. Suffering from middle book syndrome. Plus the usual YA tropes, including the love triangle, in a fantasy world.

299/150 (I can make the 300)

Andrew65 Going great 👏👏👏 What is about middle books in trilogies! 2mo
ljuliel Heya Jules , Just checking in. I missed your last couple of posts. Wanted to make sure all is ok. 🙂. I see you have books and some ice cream. As long as you have a SPOON 🥄, you should be all set. 2mo
AlaMich I have a theory that publishers demand trilogies, so authors write them, even when the story would have been better served by a duology. So they have to pad the middle book with something. 2mo
julesG @ljuliel 😁 Yes, spoons we have. Although I'm not beyond using my fingers when it comes to ice-cream . 2mo
julesG @AlaMich That's what I think, too. Trilogies sell more books, but often make for more boring stories. 2mo

I really love the Grishaverse and this book added so much more to the story. The political intrigue and more in depth look at the small science/magic really made me enjoy being in this world even more.

And then there is Nikolai... I just fell for him hook line and sinker 🥰😍😘

The second book in the Grishverse world a
And the series is coming to Netflix! The story starts off with a bang, middle does meander a little but ends with a stunning conclusion. Bardugo builds on her fantasy world with rich details and her own deft touch adding a little steam punk with magic. A heady blend of adventure, romance and fantasy. The action, character development and plot all continue with great skill and flair. Highly recommended!!

I finished Seige and Storm over the weekend. I liked it a lot, but not as much as the first book. The plot felt just a tad overworked. The world building is really good. Somewhere between 4 and 4.5 stars for me. I will read the next in the series.

I‘m loving this series! Set directly after Shadow and Bone, Alina & Mal are on the run from the Darkling & his rebel Grisha. Taking ship to the west, they‘re discovered & brought back to Ravka, but things don‘t go according to the Darklings plan. I love Nikolai, I love the tension between Mal & Alina and I love to hate the Darkling. Diving straight into Ruin & Rising next. 5⭐️

It‘s so easy to read, you get totally immersed in its world & before you know it, it‘s 6am and the sun is up🌞Apparently Netflix has made these books into a TV series, I can‘t wait to see what they do with it. GatheringBooks i am thinking of drafting a blogpost along the lines of ... if hbo‘s game of thrones season 8 was written by a woman... or even by george rr martin himself who is reputed to have “traumatic creative differences” with hbo‘s writers - how would the story line be? 9mo
Lizpixie @GatheringBooks exactly! Why did every powerful woman have to be either a hard bitch(Olenna & Sansa)or crazy & psychotic(Cersei & Dany)In the books Cersei is ruthless yes, but she‘s shown a bit more sympathetically, same with Daenerys. 9mo

I didn't find this second book in the series as gripping as the first, whether that's a matter of a lack of Darkling scenes (there can never be enough), or frustration with Mal being an absolute moron sometimes. That being said, I still really enjoy this story and world, and we got an absolute gift in Nikolai. He is the best. I can't wait to read King of Scars now, a whole book about Nikolai? Yes please.

It's the holidays... and it's cold and windy. I don't mind though as it's perfect reading weather! I finished up Siege and Storm this morning. I enjoyed it, but it didn't quite live up to the first book. I loved the characters and the writing, but there was a long period in the middle where nothing really happened. I'd still recommend it though as the ending was fantastic.
