Exquisite Corpse
Exquisite Corpse | Poppy Z. Brite
A terrifying novel of love and slaughter set in London and New Orleans. To serial killer Andrew Compton, murder is an art, the most intimate art. After feigning his own death to escape from a life sentence in prison, he makes his way to America with the intention of bringing his art to new heights. Tortured by his own perverse desires, he inadvertently joins forces with Jay, a dissolute playboy. They set their sights on a young Vietnamese-American runaway, who they deem to be the perfect victim. Moving from the grimy streets of London's Piccadilly Circus to the decadences of New Orleans' French Quarter, Poppy Z. Brite dissects the landscape of torture and invites us into the mind of a serial killer in this riveting, unforgettable masterpiece of horror.

Hey new #lmpbc group! I‘m super excited for our #GroupHorror and these were some of the selections I was thinking of choosing from. Have you guys read any of these? Any of these on your TBR?

And if either of you know our last member, could you let me know her username? There are a couple Littens with that name and I don‘t want to tag the wrong person!

Marmie7 I think she's @lauraJ ? 5mo
collegecatlady @Marmie7 Awesome! Thanks so much!! 5mo
TheBookAddict The Deep is in my TBR. 5mo

LauraJ I've read several of these, but it has literally been over 20 years, so I'm happy with any of the choices. Wool and The Deep are on my TBR. 5mo
JoScho Yay we have four!! So glad we have a fun horror group. The only one of these I have read is Kill Creek. @lauraj @Marmie7 5mo

RaimeyGallant The best horror of the year sounds good to me. Is it an anthology? I love horror in shorter form. 5mo
collegecatlady @RaimeyGallant Yes! It is short stories! 5mo
vivastory Kill Creek is set close to where I live 5mo
collegecatlady @vivastory I love it when I find books set near where I live! I feel like it adds another dimension to the reading experience - especially if it‘s a scary book. 5mo
vivastory Definitely! One of the opening scenes is set in the library with the giant book spines on the outside of the parking garage. I used to live in an apartment a block away from it. 5mo

I‘m torn between a so so and a pick on this. It was super weird - a story about serial killers and AIDS and different men and how they come together. I liked the story and it was very interesting, but there were parts where the story was a little much/too hard to believe for me.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It is darker than any book I have ever read. It is filled with gore, love, and evil. I recommend this to only people who can look past the gore and see the true storylines. I personally really enjoyed this book.

So far this book is pretty great! It is very dark, which I love in a book. I'm only on chapter two and I have to force myself to do homework because I just want to read.

A creepy book it was. The starting of this book is very good and intense and once it shifts to another character it gets dragged down. Lost interest in the midway and finished it off after a long and discontinuous read.

Books and coffee. Normally I post a pic on my IG account everyday of this theme but I figured I would also share here today. A book and coffee from my secret Santa. Coffee is yummy 🤶🏻☕️

Still as disgusting, disturbing, and beautifully demented as I remember.

An oldie but a a goodie. Re reading for the first time in adulthood. Man I was a messed up teenager. Fabulously gruesome horror with LGBT characters and multiple ethnicities.

This is such a terrific read! There's so much one can analyze within queer and trans theory. I always recommend this book to my colleagues and students-- well, the open minded ones at least.

Dark and deeply disturbing. This is my go to horror novel.
