Sofia Cole has always been able to get anything she wants through begging, flirting, and shameless manipulation of everyone around her. Sofia doesn't think that Dad sending her on a gap service year to Guyana to address how "spoiled" she is will change any of that. Sofia just might be proven wrong. (A companion novel to SOLVING FOR EX (February 2014,) FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS is a standalone Upper YA/Lower NA contemporary romance. Fuller synopsis below.) ***** Sofia's had a really rough year - busted for cheating at prep school, dumped - dumped! - for the first time ever, and her new non-profit working stepmother is turning out to be an uppity bitch. She deserves to treat herself. But when she throws herself a birthday party with 20 of her closest friends in Paris and (accidentally!) maxes out her dad's credit card in the process, hes had enough of her attitude. As punishment, he switches her planned gap year touring Europe to one doing community service work with the evil stepmothers relief organization in Guyana. The rural village of Dabu needs help in every area from education to getting safe drinking water. But Sofias more concerned about her roommate Callum, the gardening expert, who calls Sofia "Princess" and scoffs at her distaste for sweaty, muddy, iguana-eating, outhouse-using life in Guyana. Eventually, life on the equator, her work in the village, and especially Callum - with his brooding eyes and bewitching New Zealand accent - start to grow on Sofia. Life is rough in Guyana, but its roughest on the girls, whose families are too poor to send only the most promising boys in school. Theyre trapped in a cycle that will keep them from ever making a better life for themselves, or for the village. Worse, Callum doesnt seem to think any of the changes Sofia envisions are actually necessary. Determined to change the girls futures, she comes up with a strategy to help them and, ultimately, the village. But what starts out as a plan to convince Callum and her father that shes fallen in love with Guyana, turns into the realization that maybe shes falling for Callum, too. And that by changing these girls lives, she might also be changing her own. (Contains adult language and situations.)

Has anyone else ever had this happen through Libby? Evidently, the library will occasionally offer you a 7 day borrow for a book with a long hold list (rather than 21 days), but they'll also let you keep your hold in the event you don't finish. This is fabulous... But I've had three come in in the last 48 hours! I'd better get reading! #firstworldproblems

Crazeedi Nope never had this occur! Good for you!!! 5y
vkois88 Ummm I didn't know about this, but it's super exciting 5y

CarolynM It's a pain to be without hot water, it must be even more difficult to be without power altogether. Still, I guess it could have been a lot worse. Thinking of you, hope they can supply you with some power soon. 6y
writerlibrarian Though of you on Friday. Happy you are okay. Here's hoping power is back soon. 🤞🏻 6y

While I braved the supermarket, the cat curled up in my new chair. 😉

Let me tell you, shopping for groceries was no fun. Not a single parking space left on the lot, drove around twice and then had to park in a street nearby. Had I known this, I could have taken the bus (bus stop right outside my house).

Anyway, back to my books. Can't decide what to pick up next.

MicheleinPhilly Oh no. I have to go today and I am NOT looking forward to it. 😩 6y
julesG @MicheleinPhilly But you are not in an area where the shops will be closed from 8 p.m. on, like forever. People are shopping as if they had to cater for a whole army over the next weeks. There was an elderly couple with two full carts of groceries. I was tempted to take my camera out. 6y
MicheleinPhilly This is true. It‘s also raining so I‘m kind of hoping a lot of people will just think, “I can always go tomorrow.” 🤞🏼 6y

Captivatedbybooks @MicheleinPhilly i went yesterday to the shoprite on levick girl it was EMPTY i couldnt believe! I was preparing myself for the worse and it was sooo empty today may be another story 6y
melissanorr The store near my library in DC yesterday was insane. Much like @julesG described her experience today and for no reason because the store will be open all weekend and even on Monday. 6y
julesG @melissanorr Every year the same. 6y
MicheleinPhilly @Captivatedbybooks I was going to go yesterday but decided to take a nap instead. 6y
Lmstraubie Now it's time for kitty to share with you 😁 6y
julesG @Lmstraubie It is and she did. She's napping on my lap now. 6y
Miss_Kim That chair is the perfect reading chair! Enjoy ❤️ 6y
Beckys_Books I procrastinated the last two hours until my husband took pity and said he would go to the store for me. Luckily I have a detailed list to send with him. 6y
julesG @Beckys_Books That's clever. 6y
scripturient We have the same chair, only in grey. And yes, grocery shopping before Xmas is horrible. We went at seven this morning and it was already so crowded. :( 6y
julesG @scripturient I was torn between the light blue and the yellow, my friend persuaded me to get the yellow one and a stool. You went at seven? Wow! I couldn't drag myself out of bed to do that. I usually like to go early, too. 6y
scripturient @julesG Yeah, my son wakes up at five so we thought we‘d use this to our advantage. 😂 6y
julesG @scripturient I remember those days. I don't want them back. 😝😝😝 6y

Why do library cards have to expire?? Why!? #firstworldproblems #libraryproblems

BibliophileMomma Oh no!!! 7y
bookwrm526 😩I don't understand expiring library cards - I guess it's so they can make sure you're still a resident? But it seems like they could do that without suspending your access!! 7y
MicheleinPhilly The last time they renewed my library card they wrote "Never" as the expiration date. You would have thought they handed me a check for a million bucks, I was so happy. 7y

LibrarianJen Lame! This happened to me a few weeks ago which was super embarrassing since I'm a librarian! 7y
Lauren_reading This happened to me on a Saturday night with all the libraries closed on Sunday - I now set a reminder on my phone to renew 😀 7y
ScientistSam Nooooo!!! 7y
CouronneDhiver Ugh. That's the worst. My local library does that to me every year on my birthday 7y
Books_Wine_Repeat @bookwrm526 Exactly! They should suspend inactive cards. 😐😑 @MicheleinPhilly I'd be so happy if my card never expired!! 🎉 @LibrarianJen Haha!! @LaurenReads Do you know I set myself a reminder last year for the renewal this year and completely overlooked it. Now I'm setting multiple reminders. 🙃 @CouronneDhiver They just want to see you on your birthday. 😉 7y
