This is Gorey's illustration of Count Dracula in Dr. Seward's library. It's been a little while since my last reading, but I don't recall Seward being quite so death-obsessed as the furnishings in this picture would suggest. On the other hand, Seward does strike me as being rather brooding and melancholic, so perhaps Gorey had it right 🦇💀
@Ruthiella As you mentioned, it did come down to sorting by shape rather than image 😊

I usually prefer a 1000-piece puzzle, but all that crosshatching looks very difficult to discriminate between! I think this will be an exercise in patience 😄

My Halloween aesthetic is informed by campy monster movies, gothic vibes, and enjoying fall activities. Basically, if I could live in a Edward Gorey mad scientist house that is also a haunted corn maze with apple trees and the occasional ridiculous pet costume and other assorted silliness, I‘d be a happy lady!

I finally got it!!! This has been haunting me (pun intended) since last years Barnes and Noble 50% off sale! Last year no one in the store could find a single copy! This year i had to ask for help again but i got it!! And for $20!!

I'm so glad I gave Dracula another chance! I enjoyed the writing the first time around, but got bogged down as the story kept going and going. The second time I did an all-night Dracuthon and there was something about it. Either everyone's excitement infected me or it was better free of expectations, but I loved it! Obvs there are some racist/cultural things of it's time I don't agree with, but I'm so glad my class that made me re-read it! 🧛

The red part was velvety and when the book is closed you it creates bats on the pages.

It was $40 though! 😫

I could have gone in so many directions for “book that reminds me of autumn”, fellow #littensdressedinblood: there‘s classic horror 👻 and academia 🎓 and, for some reason, fairy tales 🧚🏼‍♀️ and fairytale retellings? And then I realized I was just listing all my favorite books 🤦🏻‍♀️ (to go with my favorite season? I guess). Oof.
And honestly, I can‘t think of anything more seasonal than a classic horror illustrated by Gorey. Case closed!
