English Animals | Laura Kaye

I‘ve had a pretty crappy reading year so far, but I finally finished a book I enjoyed! English Animals was full of quirky characters, well written with a good plot. I picked this up after a visit to the tiny natural history museum in Lille, France which is full of taxidermied animals -super creepy but it reminded me that I had not read this book. A very entertaining read and I recommend it to anyone who likes small town quirkiness.

I read this straight after reading Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick. I thought it would be interesting to compare the two books - one set in North Korea and this one set in South Korea. Both were brutal. 4 stars.

ReadingEnvy I thought it was so interesting to read about a conflict I'd never heard about, yet it happened in my lifetime! 7y

Book 2 done. This was a bit up and down for me - parts of it were superb and difficult and emotional but I found some parts dragged a bit. I gave this 3 stars. I'd still recommend it to the entire world though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book has gone straight to my (very small) favourites shelf. A collection of 50 true stories told at The Moth story-telling nights around USA, they are all different but all so moving and will reaffirm your faith in humanity. It's now on my bucket list to attend one of these events in the flesh. An easy 5 stars!

High expectations were sadly not met. I was expecting eery creepiness but didn't get that at all. The historical elements were interesting but I found the writing to be clunky in places and a little repetitive. Still ⭐️⭐️⭐️, it was enjoyable, just not the fabulousness I was hoping for.

Book 5 in #tryachapter. This first chapter is very short and doesn't give much away! It seems a little quirky and unusual. Now to choose which of the 5 to read! This is a tricky decision!! 🙄😀

Book 4 in #tryachapter. This one seems to be the most 'literary' and dealing with the heaviest subject matter. I'm intrigued and want to know what happens next, but not sure if I'm in the mood for the concentration I think this one will require!

First up in my #tryachapter endeavour. First impressions: good! I like the writing, already dislike the husband and feeling sympathetic towards the wife. Interested to read more! (No defined chapters so read up to a natural break about 10 pages in) Have been wanting to read this for ages so may be the winner, but 4 more first chapters to go yet!

I am just getting in to graphic novels/comics - this is the second I've read. I had no idea what's going on, and it ends in the middle of the story which I guess is the norm. The art was pretty though and it was fun to read. I'll probably continue with the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
