They say there's no place like home. It's where the heart is... Meet the little boy who believes in miracles. Meet the mother who loves to bring babies home from the newborn aisle of her supermarket. Meet the husband who carves a longed-for baby out of ice as a gift for his wife. Meet the widow who is reminded of romance whilst standing at the kitchen sink. In this prize-winning short story collection, Carys Bray weaves together moments of joy, heartache, sadness and unwavering love as told through seventeen very different notions of home.

I‘m on a role these days, my second short story completed in 2 months. I‘m not much of a short story reader so I‘m happy about that.

The stories in this collection is weird and some have elements of fairy tales. They focus on parenthood, loss, childhood and belonging.

This is the last day of my 3 week vacation and I finished it by traveling to London for a long weekend. These are the books that came home with me after a couple of days of book shopping.

Melissa_J I‘m on my last day of three weeks off, too. It‘s going to be hard to get up tomorrow morning 🤣😄 6y
batsy Some amazing titles there 😍 6y
AnneCecilie @Melissa_J I try not to think about that too much. I had an early flight home today so I have started already with getting up early 6y

AnneCecilie @batsy I really hope so. I have heard a lot of good things for most of the books 6y
HardcoverHearts Did we go to the same bookseller?! There is a good overlap in what I bought in London and what you did. 🙌🏻 6y
AnneCecilie @HardcoverHearts Maybe or maybe we use the same sources for recommendations on the internet 😀 I visited Daunt Books at Marylebone and Waterstones at Piccadilly. 6y
HardcoverHearts @AnneCecilie One of the best booksellers I have ever met is Jack at Daunt at Marylebone and he is who sold me most of my London finds! 6y
AnneCecilie @HardcoverHearts I didn't talk with any of the booksellers, but I follow several Brits on BookTube, maybe they have or maybe they just have good taste in books 😉 6y

This short story collection had some of the most #unusualnarrators - A woman that brings home babies from the super market being the weirdest. This is a great collection of weird, magical realism stories 👌

Good morning Littens! Any of you still up? It's around 8 in the morning in Denmark, and I am reading again after some hours of sleep. I am continueing the #readathon with these two books, that I will alternate a bit between. 📚

I'm trying to get more into short stories but I'm not sure they are for me. Some of these were lovely but I found most were instantly forgettable which disappoints me as I'd heard great things about this collection. I will persevere!

My favorite short story collection ever. Explores family, parenthood and what it means to be human.
