Step on a Crack
Step on a Crack | James Patterson, Michael Ledwidge
9 posts | 36 read | 17 to read
During a state funeral for a beloved former First Lady in New York City's largest cathedral, the unthinkable occurs. Armed men disguised as monks seize the church and seal themselves inside, along with more than one hundred of the most powerful people in America. The captives include world leaders, actors, TV stars, athletes, and politicians, and the kidnappers are armed with enough C4 explosives to blow a crater in the middle of Manhattan. NYPD officer Michael Bennett is pulled into the standoff as lead negotiator. Despite the escalating danger, Michael faces an even more terrifying crisis at home. His wife has been diagnosed with a devastating disease, and Michael faces the prospect of losing the love of his life and having to raise their ten children alone. With his own life teetering and the lives of thousands suddenly his responsibility, Michael struggles to diffuse the tense situation fast. Yet the kidnappers' moves are impossible to predict, and they block every attempt to break into the cathedralmost as if they are privy to their deliberations.

Am I the only one who thinks this is the most awkward opening sentence of all time?

jen_the_scribe Yes it doesn‘t make any sense to me. And on another note, I‘ve never met a woman who referred to her own breasts as “these puppies” but I guess there could be some women out there who do? Lol 3y
5feet.of.fury Yeah there‘s a lot to take in here already 3y
5feet.of.fury @jen_the_scribe I agree, I have never heard a woman use that phrase. I don‘t even think I‘ve heard a real person say it. 3y
Jennaree3 @jen_the_scribe nor would anyone use the word “frock” in any kind of sexy context 😂 3y
jen_the_scribe @Jennaree3 Very true! Lol so much to absorb in those couple of paragraphs lol 3y

I don‘t know why I hadn‘t read this sooner but I finally got around to it! This is the first in the Michael Bennett series and I loved it! It was truly heartbreaking at times and Bennett is a different character than others that Patterson has written about. I can‘t wait to read the rest of the series! 🌟🌟🌟🌟!

And now on to this one. Take that CYO CPR (Cool People Read) Readathon. #CYOReadathon @Sace I am making more progress than I thought I would. And still some time before midnight. Yay. I never read the authors that are popular like John Grisham or this guy. Idk why not. I guess I just don't like doing what everyone else is doing. Anyway... I'm off to see the wizard.

CaffeineAndCandy Bailing on this one. They killed a priest. Plus I'm just not too into it. Sorry Patterson. 4y

I honestly had never read any of Patterson‘s works until a few weeks ago and I‘m honestly grateful because now I can binge!! I absolutely loved this book. Perfect mix of character building while still a good pace of the action. More than satisfied with the ending which, with other writers, can sometimes feel rushed.

✨I have a real problem w/going to my library every week & buying every book I even THINK about wanting/needing. Clancy for my collection & Patterson for my collection. The hardcovers just because I thought they were pretty. I'll read them, but I also have a massive TBR already.
✨At least 9 books for $2.75 is nothing to complain about. I just can't help myself. Now, time to build another bookshelf😂📚
@BookwormAHN Caraval is on its way to youuu! 💜

BookwormAHN I have similar problems at the local Good Will store. Paperbacks are .25 cents and hardbacks are .50 cents. I'll watch for Caraval 😸 6y

Like all Patterson thrillers, it was spellbinding! . . . Kept me awake way past my bedtime!

RavensCarm I just finished this book tonight! Soooo good! Hadn‘t read any Patterson until a few weeks ago and have now read the first two Women‘s Murder Club and this one. He‘s a new favorite for sure! 5y
