Hag-Seed | Margaret Atwood
post image
Pickpick

Loved it. Brilliant. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

You never know what you will get with a Margaret Atwood novel - she writes across so many styles and genres. But you can trust it will be awesome.

Hag-seed is both a modern retelling of Shakespeare, as well as a primer for the play itself. It's multilayered yet light and comedic. A seeming paradox, it is a farce with depth. And so funny.

In this picture, the great Ms Atwood looks perfect for the theatre 🙌

oonaghmoon I've only read a couple of Atwood books, definitely adding Hag Seed to my TBR! 8y
Marchpane @oonaghmoon Hope you love it! 😀 8y
Angelala007 This one is on it's way to me now! Can't wait! 8y

#reallifepeople #unforgettablewomen #twofer I loved Mary Mallon, an Irish cook in turn-of-the-century New York, accused of spreading thypoid through her cooking "She tried to make sense of what they told her about invisible microbes that floated in the air, that traveled up the nose & into the mouth. So many years later, it still sounded like a fairy tale meant for children, a little world too small for the human eye" #booktober #octphotochallenge

LeahBergen She's so interesting (but I wouldn't be popping by her house for lunch 😛)! 8y
quirkyreader This one is close to the top of my TBR pile. 8y

To me the best books are ones where you fall in love with the story and the characters but also learn something game changing, something that alters your perception of the world. This is just such a book. And Ifemelu is definitely my pick for the #unforgettablewomen post for #booktober. @LitsyFeministBookClub @RealLifeReading

RealLifeReading Such a great pick! 8y

How many of you have read The Fifth Season and are ready for the sequel!!
I was supposed to read The Obelisk Gate like a month ago but I'm having a hard time squeezing it into my October reading. I'll at least start it this Sat. during #readathon!

Also, I say Essun, the protagonist, fits into the #UnforgettableWomen category for #booktober, so I'm just gonna squeeze in here if you don't mind. 😉

readordierachel I adored The Fifth Season, so I had really high hopes for The Obelisk Gate. It did not disappoint! Jemisin is such a talented author. 8y
Nafiza I so want to get in this series but i haven't finished her duology so I won't allow myself to read this one. And now I am not reading that much since my brain can only handle either writidng a novel or reading one. Heh. 8y
read_diverse_books @ReadOrDieRachel That's great to hear. I'm always nervous about sequel to books I loved. I've been properly reassured! Thanks. 8y

read_diverse_books @Nafiza Yeah, you're going to be busy writing in November, right? I totally get it. The series will be complete next year, so you can wait until they're all out. 😤 8y
Nafiza Oh no, I can't write a book in a month and know better than to try. I have been editing my novel and it's like there are only so many words i can handle in a day. I am glad you're enjoying the series. 8y
klwestenberg SO GOOD 8y
MarticaMustRead I've just recently discovered her and "Fifth Season" was my intro to her. Very much looking forward to this follow up! 8y
read_diverse_books @klwestenberg I'm committed to start it this weekend. Hopefully I breeze through it! 8y
read_diverse_books @MarticaMustRead Hope you like it as much as I did! 8y
BooksOnDragonwingsBox Omg read it, even more epic!!! 8y

Lizbeth Salander is an all-time favorite character for me. Thinking about all of the circumstances she survives in these books impresses me. She also reminds me of my first date with my significant other. We went to see the movie with Noomi Rapace. He had not read the book, so we had A LOT to talk about afterwards. #UnforgettableWomen

Jenshootsweddings Good choice! 8y
melbeautyandbooks Love Lisbeth! That movie and the sequels were really good. Better than the one American movie. 8y

2 of the most #unforgettablewomen for me: Holly Golightly and Scarlett O'Hara. Neither was perfect but they possessed strength and lots of charisma in the book and in their movie adaptation. #booktober

I'm choosing Maura, Persephone, and Calla for my #UnforgettableWomen because I think they should get their own spin-off series. #booktober (I found this picture on Google. I have no artistic ability.)

After falling in love hard with Lumberjanes 1, I HAD to get the rest. I may need to pace myself though (if I can!) so I am not left desolate waiting for the next book...
