History, ships, pirates, queer characters - what's not to love? Exactly! Sure, at the end it got a bit too much YA for me, but I think in that age readers just need that. Everything else was just an awesome ride. I loved how Mar grows and learns to accept themselves, Novoa wrote their journey really good and I think a lot of young readers will relate. And maybe some of us older ones, too?

I really liked the book! I've always found Día de Muertos to be such a fascinating tradition. Too bad the sequel doesn't come out until fall 2026

ElizaMarie I really enjoyed this one. We celebrate Dia de los Muertos - of course, not the way the book does. but... still. I love the discussion of culture, family, and love that was found in this book. Also, the story itself was captivating. 2w
