The Watch is baffled by a pair of mysterious murders & the poisoning of the Patrician. It will take all of them working together along w/ a new hire to solve everything.

This is 1 of my favorites. The two separate mysteries are fascinating, I love all the characters (Angua my beloved), Dorfl & the golems & the power of choosing, & Vimes always satisfies my deeply buried vengeful side @ the end. I forgot how much that last scene hits me.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

kwmg40 I really enjoyed this one. I'd read this a few years ago, but appreciate it more after reading the preceding Watch books in order. I especially liked the developing relationship between Angua and Carrot, and Carrot's fascination with the Dwarf Bread Museum. 4w

BarbaraJean It was interesting to read this after having read the Moist books—it's one of the first times I felt like I was reading things out of order. But I kind of like having the later books already in my head as a glimpse at the future of the golems! I loved how Pratchett uses golems to consider who counts as a person, setting that against other prejudices. @kwmg40 I love their relationship & am glad there are more books in which it can develop further! 4w

willaful I thought at first this was a little too similar to previous Watch books, but by the end I loved it. So genuinely poignant, and with so much heart and grace. Pratchett at his most humane. 4w

BookmarkTavern @kwmg40 I also really loved seeing Carrot and Angua‘s relationship, especially getting to see it from Angua‘s point of view. 3w
