“ There‘s a society here of women who still think the name Hughes should be removed from Sylvia Plath‘s headstone—I‘m sure you‘ve heard about that, how they are always trying to etch it off the stone…

https://sylviaplathinfo.blogspot.com/2021/10/sylvia-plaths-grave.html?m=1

I had no clue about this very real controversy!

merelybookish I didn't know this but guess I'm not surprised. I know lots of Plath devotee LOATHE Ted Hughes. 2y
kspenmoll @merelybookish This had never occurred to me but I know about Ted Hughes reputation!!! 2y
DivineDiana I did not know of this. It‘s sad all around. 😞 (edited) 2y

#WeeklyForecast late edition

I actually finished Camp Murderface before bed last night, but I had already made the graphic. 🙂

I hope to read Kill Creek pretty quickly as it‘s due back at the library soon and others are waiting for it.

vivastory Fun fact: I used to live in an apartment only a block away from where the group gathers in the library at the beginning of Kill Creek. 3y
Cinfhen That is a #FunFact @vivastory and as always awesome graphics, Margie 😍 3y

Bookzombie @vivastory That is a cool fact! It‘s a beautiful building! Also, living a block away from a library would be great. 3y

Finally synced up to the #BBBBC group read schedule. Now I just have to manage to finish this by the end of August. So far, it‘s pretty fascinating!

#funfact: I had a neurosurgeon with the same name as this book‘s translator, but I‘m fairly certain they aren‘t the same guy.

Interrupting my reading plans to start this biography of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. I just learned that her first official public service post was on the San Francisco Library Commission. #FunFact

vlwelser I want a copy of that just for the cover. 😍😍😍 4y
MallenNC @vlwelser I know, right? This is a library book but I‘m getting a copy to keep. (edited) 4y

MallenNC @Susanita It‘s definitely iconic. The prologue of the book talks about the day she wore that coat. 4y

Happy Mean Girls Day! Did you know that Tina Fey adapted the concept for Mean Girls from Queen Bees and Wannabes? I'm so glad she did - it was ambitious and it paid off, this is still one of my favourite films of all time! #October #MeanGirls #Trivia #FunFact

I quit GoT several seasons ago so while all of y'all are freaking out about the last season, I'll be over here enjoying this book about killer mermaids
#funfact I got married in an aquarium and now I have a ton of octopus decor.

KatieDid927 I quit too! Solidarity! ✊🏼 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @KatieDid927 right on! My friends were thinking of having a deadpool for this season and were shocked when I said I stopped watching. 5y
jpmcwisemorgan I watched the first season and maybe one or two episodes of season two, and then one or two random episodes. I even tried to read the books - my brother thought I‘d like them and he‘s usually right. I just sort of follow along on social media. I‘m following someone‘s live Tweeting for this episode. That‘s all I can do. 5y

WhatWouldJaneDo @jpmcwisemorgan my husband has read the first four books and was really excited for the show. I tried to read the first one after the first season of the show and didn't get very far, just wasn't into it. I just lost interest in keeping up with it between seasons (especially with the ever escalating violence--I can deal with that in a movie or novel but when you keep having to up the ante over that duration it gets pretty rough). 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @jpmcwisemorgan but I also still read recaps/spoilers out of morbid fascination since it is such a cultural phenomenon. 5y
Sweetdgabe87 This book sounds amazing!!!! 5y
jpmcwisemorgan I stoped watching The Walking Dead too. It‘s a lot to take in because it just keeps coming. So I just read spoilers! I‘m glad I‘m not the only one doing this for GoT. 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @Sweetdgabe87 I'm really enjoying it so far! I'd picked it up when it was on sale and then it was recommended on a podcast I've been listening to so it seemed like a sign to finally read it. 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @jpmcwisemorgan I quit on Walking Dead a few seasons ago as well. It seemed like it wasn't about story anymore, just shock value! I think we're in good company 😁 5y
Sweetdgabe87 @WhatWouldJaneDo I have it in my to read pile! 💜 5y
DGRachel I love that octopus! 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @DGRachel thanks! This one was a gift so I'm not sure where it's from. I think I should start working my octopus collection into my posts 🐙 5y
DGRachel Ooh! Yes, please! ❤️🐙❤️ 5y

#shirlitesunite Not only the name ‘Shirley‘, but ‘Wendy‘ used to be a masculine name too! 🤔
#funfact #bookishfact

batsy Wow, that's interesting! And my first thought was did it start with Peter Pan 😁 5y
Blaire @batsy that would be interesting to know! 5y
Blaire I also wonder about ones that maintain crossover appeal. I know both male and female carrie‘s tho male usually spelled Cary. Also my name is still used by both. Even ones like Sidney and Jordan seem to be trending more female. Would love to read about why this happens. My theory would be that parents stop wanting to name boys names that become associated with women but that it doesn‘t work the other way. 5y

merelybookish Wow! So funny! I did not know this one! I always associated Wendy with Gwendolyn. Which I think is a traditional female name? 5y
merelybookish @Blaire There are few gender neutral names. Once a name is considered feminine, it's used less for boys. I think certain sounds get considered feminine too. I find it pretty fascinating. But maybe the pendulum can shift. My friend named her son Morgan after years of being told it was too feminine, but it has been decreasing in popularity for girls so she figured it would be okay. 5y
