An intimate, fresh perspective on the most powerful woman in American political history, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, by award-winning political journalist Molly Ball Shes the iconic leader who puts Donald Trump in his place, the woman with the toughness to take on a lawless president and defend American democracy. Ever since the Democrats took back the House in the 2018 midterm elections, Nancy Pelosi has led the opposition with strategic mastery and inimitable elan. Its a remarkable comeback for the veteran politician who for years was demonized by the right and taken for granted by many in her own partyeven though, as speaker under President Barack Obama, she deserves much of the credit for epochal liberal accomplishments from universal access to health care to saving the US economy from collapse, from reforming Wall Street to allowing gay people to serve openly in the military. How did an Italian grandmother in four-inch heels become the greatest legislator since LBJ? Balls nuanced, page-turning portrait takes readers inside the life and times of this historic and underappreciated figure. Based on exclusive interviews with the Speaker and deep background reporting, Ball shows Pelosi through a thoroughly modern lens to explain how this extraordinary woman has met her moment.

I bought this because of the cover. Because I love this Max Mara coat she is wearing. It cannot be the stupidest reason I ever bought a book, but it's up there. This would still be lingering on my TBR shelf if it weren't for #BookSpin.

But the book itself is SO interesting. It's well written and flows well. I'm pretty impressed with it. The book ends with her announcing a certain planned impeachment in 2019.

#BookSpin done! @TheAromaofBooks

Full disclosure, I‘ve had this book checked out for almost a year (perks of working at the library oops), so I figured it was finally time to actually read it. I‘m three pages into the prologue and I‘m already sitting here like “yaaaaas Madam Speaker.” 😍🤷🏻‍♀️ #pelosi #mollyball #nancypelosi #madamspeaker #speakerofthehouse #resistancequeen #womeninpolitics #herstory #awomansplaceisinthehouseandthesenate #womenincongress

This biography is interesting, as I didn‘t know much about Pelosi as a person. The first part is written a little YA, but the writing steadily improves throughout the book. She has my upmost respect- it‘s incredibly clear that whether it is when she raised 5 kids without help or runs political strategy, she does what it takes to get the job done. I‘m shocked she began her political career at 47. Worthy of admiration, Pelosi stands her ground.

This book was great. I‘ve always admired Nancy Pelosi but didn‘t know a lot about her life before she ran for Congress. It was disheartening to learn that even she has to fight to be in the room sometimes, and has to work to have her voice heard, but there‘s a lot of inspiration to be found here. You get a real appreciation for her strengths, including those she learned from her mother and from being a mother herself. She is tough and smart!

Interrupting my reading plans to start this biography of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. I just learned that her first official public service post was on the San Francisco Library Commission. #FunFact

vlwelser I want a copy of that just for the cover. 😍😍😍 4y
MallenNC @vlwelser I know, right? This is a library book but I‘m getting a copy to keep. (edited) 4y
