Design Is Storytelling | Ellen Lupton
post image
Pickpick

I finally finished this one but I‘ll definitely be coming back to it again and again. It‘s probably my favorite design book so far as it connects two of my passions: (obviously) design and stories. There were so many books and articles referenced that my TBR list just got bigger, and there were countless practice exercises and prompts to get the creative juices flowing. I‘m excited to give them a try! Continued in comments ⬇️

jen_the_scribe The way Lupton connected storytelling techniques and methodology to design was thought-provoking and inspiring. It all makes sense as you read it and the examples drive the points home in an intriguing way. There‘s so much for a designer to unpack with this one, but personally, I find it more exciting than overwhelming. I‘m inspired and even more ready to solve design problems as the storyteller I am at heart. 3mo

For today‘s #ScarathlonSprint “2 hours of your choosing” hosted by @dabbe I read from 7-9 PM. I finished 10 short stories out of 2 anthologies.

Finishing the stories gave me 400 points + 2910 ScarathlonWordSearch points + 1 participation point so 3311 #Scarathlon points for Team #SpookyGhostClub 👻🖤👻

Long, busy workday so I am just posting this now. The #ScarathlonSprint hosted by @Catsandbooks fell mid-morning for me while working so I tried to make the best of it. I finished my sections of the leadership books I read for work & then snuck in an early lunch & finished 4 stories. The 4 stories netted me 881 #Scarathlon points for Team #SpookyGhostClub so not too shabby. 👻🖤👻

Clwojick Great job! 6mo
Catsandbooks Woo!! 👏🏼🦇💜 6mo

My time zone hasn‘t hooked up well with the #ScarathlonSprint times so far but I squeezed in the first hour of this one hosted by @Emilymdxn before work.

Still counting up readathon hours but I cranked out some decent numbers by reading Halloween stories-a kids book from my TBR & 7 of the 13 stories in this Kindle Unlimited book.

2751 so far for finished books/stories + #ScarathlonWordSearch + participation point for Team #SpookyGhostClub 👻

AmandaBlaze Nice job. I‘m going to switch to stories during these sprints. 6mo
DebinHawaii @AmandaBlaze Yes! Since they count individually (yay! 🎉) it‘s a great way to go when things are doubled! 6mo
Emilymdxn Incredible stats! 6mo

@Clwojick finds the most spirited Spookies to participate in!! Yayyyyy 👻 1:50 reading time (I‘m calling it 1:45 because math is hard) = 325 … is that right y‘all?

Such a cute idea! And it made me read 50 minutes longer than I would have before diving headfirst into 🍿Making progress on my buddy read 😃📖

#ScarathlonSprint

PuddleJumper Little error with the original numbers. It should be 5pts per 15 minutes, not 50 😬 6mo
PuddleJumper You'll also get double points for whatever type of book it is, e.g Halloween book will be 50 rather than 25 and 20 per readathon per hour read rather than 10 6mo
Sleepswithbooks @PuddleJumper I KNEW 50 points per 15 made to be too good to be true!! So…. 135? (1:45 time plus 3 Readathons?) @Clwojick knows how bad my math is from years past 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 6mo
PuddleJumper @Sleepswithbooks I've got it as 140 😂 35pts for the sprint. Then 105 for the readathons - 1.75x20x3. 6mo

Hey guys! I thought it would be a great time to test run our first #scarathlon #readingsprint on Listy. 🖤This event will start in 15 minutes and run for 2 hours.

No major rules, just post your final reading time at the end of the sprint, and tag the host using #scarathlonsprint. You do not have to finish the book to qualify for the 2x pts, but if you made progress during a sprint, your Halloween read will go from 25pts to 50pts etc.

Clwojick Please let me know if you have any questions! I‘ve been brainstorming a way to bring reading sprints to Litsy, and this is what I‘ve worked out so far, but we may need to iron some things out! 6mo

PuddleJumper I'm in! Need a kick to read this book, I'm so excited by it that I don't want to read it in case it sucks 😂 Start 11pg Nine Eyes of Lucien 6mo
Clwojick @PuddleJumper I FEEL THAT! I hate the nervous jitters of starting a 5 star prediction lol! It makes it so easy to push it aside for a different book I care less about 😜 Why do our brains work like that?! Hahahah 6mo
PuddleJumper @Clwojick I've read so many mediocre books instead 😂 I'm not disappointed if they are bad 6mo
LiseWorks Interesting time slot you guys chose, lol it's supper time at my house. 6mo
Clwojick @LiseWorks I would‘ve done later, if I didn‘t have to nap before my midnight shift. 😜 6mo
LiseWorks I like this idea though. We should try different time slots during the month. I love to read in the morning between 530 am and 7 am or 3 to 430 in the afternoon I know I'm weird 🙃 6mo
Clwojick @LiseWorks I shared a blank poster in our team captain chat! All captains can host as many as they want, so between the lot of us we should have a good mix match of times to work for all time zones! 🧡 6mo
LiseWorks Ok I'll look for it 6mo
Larkken Ooo! Just saw this. I'm in for the last hr 🥰 6mo
Clwojick @Larkken 🎃🖤🦇🖤🎃 6mo
aperfectmjk And I slept right through this. Went to the doctor today, got a bad sinus infection. Finally got some decent meds. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the next one. 6mo
Clwojick @aperfectmjk there‘s definitely more to come! 6mo
julieclair I missed this one, but I love this idea! Keep ‘em coming, please! 😀 6mo
Andrew65 @Clwojick It‘s a difficult balance as much later would make it impossible for us in the U.K. to join in. 6mo
Clwojick @Andrew65 we‘ve got some early morning readers, and our UK girlie @Emilymdxn so hopefully some of the sprints will work better for you! 🖤 6mo
TheAromaofBooks I missed this one, but will definitely be on the lookout for them!! I love this idea!! 6mo
Lin3han I missed this one but I can‘t wait to join next time!! 6mo
DebinHawaii Bummer I was in meetings all day in Hilo @ missed this one. 🥲 Can we do them by time zone ever? 6mo
Charityann Oh wow, totally missed this one, but would love to do the next one. 6mo
gossamerchild Aww, I'm bummed I missed this! Sounds fun. 6mo
Lizpixie Totally missed this! I‘ll need more warning before the next one so I can arrange to be awake.😴 6mo
Clwojick @DebinHawaii the idea is to do the reading sprint together, but since we know that different times will work for different people, we have more coming soon at various times of the day! 🧡 6mo
DebinHawaii @Clwojick @Clwojick I get it. Thanks. Different days & times would be helpful as would some weekend times as it‘s tough for me with work hours mid-week. Also & I probably missed this somewhere but we can do other teams sprints or just the ones for ours? And how do we find out about them? 6mo
Clwojick @DebinHawaii any sprint hosted by any of the hosts count for the same points! You can check the hashtag #scarathlonsprints but also the team leads will try to tag their team in the post whenever anyone is hosting one. 6mo
