Not my favourite Marie Benedict. There were some liberties that were a little too far for my taste. I also had a hard time following the story sometimes, I don‘t know if I was distracted or what but I won‘t remember this for long.

Ok, I confess I bought this because I sometimes watch 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown 🫣 It was a pretty slow to start, and the whole thing was a bit contrived, but I enjoyed the word games, the etymologies and the insiders look at the work of lexicographers as well as the Oxford setting. A fun read.
This novella prequel to #AGoodGirlsGuideToMurder is certainly a fast read! Connor‘s birthday dinner has a 1920s murder mystery theme (which made me nostalgic for my own 16th birthday party which was the same idea!) & as the clues emerge, Pip is certain she has it all solved! It‘s just a game that shows the motivation for Pip‘s capstone subject. Honestly, had I paid $1.99 for this on kindle, I wouldn‘t have been disappointed but $7.99 was too much!
Dictionary editor Martha returns to Oxford an after the disappearance of her sister. Cryptic letters start arriving alluding to the mystery. Martha and her colleagues set to figuring out the puzzle, through a maze of words and Shakespearean clues. At times this lost me; I didn‘t have the headspace for the lexicography. The pace soon speeds up however, and the writing has a gentle cleverness that suits the Oxford setting
July 5th, 2025 continued... Because Greta knew that Rosalie was disabled and had multiple sclerosis AND disliked the fact that Nick had an affair with the young girl, Christina Marsh, Greta confessed in helping Rosalie kill her. Rosalie was shocked that Greta would do such a thing but that leaves Rosalie, Nick, Greta, and Quinn alive at the end.
