#AugustGrrrl #MrKnowItAll Catching up with yesterday's prompt. I had the movie Matilda on this past weekend and I think that her father, Harry Wormwood, is quite the Mr. Know It All (and a crook & awful parent to boot) despite the fact that Matilda is much smarter than he is.

CharissaWeaksAuthor I loved that movie! 7y

Not quite #MrKnowItAll but close: this was one of my first bails of last year: the pretentiousness of the title should've been warning enough. Sheesh, what obnoxiously self-important twaddle! (I'm aware that she has many fans, and who knows maybe I'd respond differently to other of her stuff but the few pieces I read here were mindblowingly awful.)

LeahBergen That cover is fugly. 😬 7y
ReadingEnvy I haven't read this one but I adore her. 😳 7y
ReadingEnvy The political ones aren't as much my speed but I have my eye on 7y
shawnmooney @ReadingEnvy Great! I doubt I will ever pick up another book of hers in my entire life, that's how much I hated this one! :-) 7y

Day 29 #AugustGrrrl Playing catch-up from yesterday ~ Malcolm Gladwell is the best kind of #MrKnowItAll 🤓He's legit ~ a real genius and wonderful writer 🙌🏻💚😊

AmandaL Great choice! The way he makes connections is fascinating. 7y
tournevis He used to be a great historian. 7y

A day late, but it just occurred to me that Casaubon is a #MrKnowItAll. Though on my second read, which was a few years after my first, I began to sympathise with him and his thwarted intellectual ambitions. It's hard, getting older and dealing with scholarly block while surrounded by idealistic young things who are confident in their rightness in the way only the young can be, the world being their oyster and all. #AugustGrrrl @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Excellent choice 🙌🏻💕🤓 7y

aurora.dawn I thought the same thing! 😊 7y
Leniverse Not just that, but his intellectual ambition deals with something that is entirely passé. The world has moved on, but he can't see that his life's work belongs to the past. Even if he did finish it, other academics wouldn't bother reading it. I have little sympathy for him. He makes not only himself but his wife a slave to his futile work. 7y
batsy @thenamesbondvagabond Great minds 😉 7y
batsy @Leniverse He was certainly incapable of connecting to another person and the burden of emotional labour was totally on Dorothea. As a critique of patriarchy, this book is spot-on. But I did feel sorry for how his life's work was out of fashion; he never had a chance to prove its worth, if there was any. 7y

Ancillary Justice | Ann Leckie

#AugustGrrrl #day29 #MrKnowItAll When Breq was the Justice Of Toren s/he was the epitome of Mr Know-it-all. With her AI mind overseeing the whole, huge, battalion ship, plus all the "corpse soldiers" under her control, s/he has the ability to be in 1,000s of places at once. When she ends up being trapped in just one body when her ship is blown up, the limits on her awareness almost drives them crazy.

Cinfhen Yet again...a new to me book 😀 7y
Dragon Such a good book! Good choice for this prompt. 👍😀🐉 7y

My pick for #mrknowitall is Bob in Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. Literally a spirit of intellect, he has quite a healthy opinion of his vast stores of knowledge. Since he inhabits a skull and occasionally possesses/haunts Harry's long-suffering cat, Mister, in order to leave the house, I'm claiming him for #ahauntinglikenoneother as well.

No one could call Peter Grant #mrknowitall but that is part of what made this book so enjoyable. Loved the humor and glad that the second book in the series is already on my shelves. #augustgrrrl

The Diagnosis: A Novel | Alan Lightman

Some doctors are great, but others come off as #mrknowitall (or I guess, dr.knowitall 😜) even when it's clear they have no clue what's going on. In this novel, the main character has a mysterious and sudden brain ailment, and while finding his correct diagnosis appears to be the ultimate goal, the novel suggests how it would really explain so little about the particular path his thoughts and emotions take as a result. #augustgrrrl @Cinfhen
