The Secret Keeper | Kate Morton

Finished up this with lunch today-whole grain toast, taramasalata, an egg with basil and everything bagel seasoning.Yum!
This is the perfect book to curl up and get lost in.
Intertwining stories of war-torn London, and a family of siblings as they uncover their dying mother‘s secrets -full of twists and turns, lovely historical detail and a wonderful sense of place. Not sure why it‘s taken me this long to read Kate Morton but it won‘t be my last.

Leftcoastzen That looks so delicious! 6mo
Chelsea.Poole Your lunch looks so good and we are reading this title for #IRL book club in a few months. 6mo
KarenUK Hope you enjoy it... I read it for a bookclub too... 😊👍💕 @Chelsea.poole (edited) 6mo

The Weight of Our Sky | Hanna Alkaf

Traveled all the way to Malaysia for lunch, dessert, and a 2-hour aromatherapy massage (Johor Bahru, specifically). One of the many perks of living in Singapore, making day trips like this super convenient, fast, reliable. Naturally, I had to buy a local title that has gone international: setting is in Kuala Lumpur in 1969! Plus, it‘s one of our picks for my #IRL Book Club. Looking forward to reading this one. #WomenReadWomen2019

Crazeedi Sounds like a perfect day!! 8mo
Smarkies Fun day out! 8mo
batsy Nice! And I can't wait to get my hands on this, too. Her nonfiction work on mental illness in Malaysia was really welcome and necessary 8mo

Every Heart a Doorway | Seanan McGuire

3hr travel time to talk about heart‘s doorways, hierarchies of oddballs/misfits, story arcs & world building with my #IRL #BookClub. We had different thoughts about the book - but lesser judgments and psychological diagnosis by laypeople flying about - well, ok, less than usual. I am the registered clinical psychologist in our group but these folks here (mostly writers) love dissecting a character‘s psyche and declaring (flawed) diagnosis. 😭😂🤣

Lindy There‘s much to admire in this novel but I was in the minority in my book club because I found its flaws distracting. The continuity errors bothered me most. (edited) 9mo
GatheringBooks @Lindy same!!! i was not too impressed with the world building which felt rushed and not as thoughtful as i would have liked it to be. it is also classified under adult novels here in singapore libraries, most likely bec of the LgBT themes (hardly surprising here). the introduction of another character more than halfway through the novel also felt like an afterthought. (edited) 9mo
Lindy @GatheringBooks I see this as a crossover YA/adult title. Unfortunately for me, the other members of my YA book discussion group (mostly professors, librarians & teachers) like this author so much that we‘ve read two more in the series. I bailed on Beneath the Sugar Sky, but of the three, I like best: 9mo
GatheringBooks @Lindy the two authors in our book club (husband and wife) had also read the entire series and have ordered the fourth book that just came out this year. am planning on still continuing with the series just to see whether the story arc improves and whether the worldbuilding begins to make sense and if i develop at least some level of connection with any of the characters. i felt it was a mash up of miss peregrine and valente‘s fairyland series. 9mo
Lindy @GatheringBooks Yeah, there‘s definitely some mashing-up. Some deft twists on children‘s literature classics, especially the ones like Narnia with doorways into other worlds. 9mo

Why did it take me so long to read this book?!?!?
I loved it. My only complaint is that it is over. It was so much more interesting than I expected it to be. Full review on #Goodreads.
I recommend listening to the full cast audiobook. I did that while reading along with a paperback copy.
And now, for something totally different...Crazy Rich Asians for my #IRL #bookclub Thursday. I hope I can finish in time.

Reggie I love the story about the woman who parachutes into the swamp because the plane explodes and she‘s talking to the woman who doesn‘t exist but is her own voice. Mets. 9mo
MaleficentBookDragon @Reggie Yes, that was a great one. I loved (and was a little saddened by) the one about the dogs. 9mo

Here are my #novemberstats. All in all, a very enjoyable (and eclectic) book month.
The Best - The Impersonator
The one I liked least - The Lying Game
Most confusing - I'm sure can guess which one.
I just came from my library #IRL book club tonight. We were discussing the tagged book. I really liked this book and I will continue with the series. The writing put me right there in the 1920s. I enjoyed it a lot and loved the fun twist at the end.
