Nope. When I go into a book knowing there's a semi-absurd premise, something where you're going to work extra hard to suspend disbelief and not think too hard about the details, I'm looking for the result to be charming or meaningful. I feel like this book didn't manage either.
Started out thinking it could have been a novella, now convinced that amount of plot and original rumination minus the redundancies would have fit in a short story. 1/?

The author traveled to every country in the world & this memoir is about creating your own quest & completing it. While I think he comes from a place of privilege to be able to encourage people to drop everything and follow their dreams, some of his tips were helpful. I love tangible goals, like visit all 50 states & read all Shakespeare‘s plays.

I have been meaning to read this book for years!

This was a real joy to read. He even managed to find a good story about cake! Even though this is nonfiction, it explains the desperate need for fiction, especially literary fiction, to the wellbeing of humanity. Definitely worth reading in 2025 America. Seriously, this is a cheery, encouraging, and engaging explanation of everything we‘re getting wrong and how to fix it.

Absolutely ADORED this description of musical chairs! 🤣😂🤣 I also thought the revised version he suggested would be more fun, and be a great critical thinking and creative problem solving exercise.

I haven‘t had a car since 2016. It has severely limited opportunities in all kinds of areas (including renewing my driver‘s license - which apparently now I need to be able to get a new job, even if driving is not required). Taking public transport is a struggle when it‘s seen as less than or lower class. It has plus sides though, and I feel like truly developed countries should be moving in this direction and away from all these bleeding cars.

From personal experience, I can absolutely attest to this.
If you want to screw up your kids forever, give them an inferiority complex coupled with isolating them as much as possible.

This is 3 April and I‘m starting my third book. The first two have been horrible (one pan and one DNF), so here‘s hoping this one is way better… yeah, I picked what is probably a walk off home run in good books, but after the last two books, let‘s make this happen.
