This book was beyond fascinating!! It‘s what @rockpools calls a #GoogleyBook 🤓SO MANY rabbit holes 🐰In the Yunnan Province of China lives the Akha People, where tradition & tribal customs rule; it‘s also a region where valuable pu‘er tea is harvested & cultivated. This story follows Li-Yan as she grows from a poor child to a successful business woman spanning many decades. At times overwrought & overwritten, I still enjoyed #AAM #SetInChina

squirrelbrain Great review! I have this on hold at the library but may not get to it this month, as I‘m going to read this one first. 2y
rockpools I agree! Once I‘d got past the #OverwroughtAndOverwritten 🙄 (new one for you!) I enjoyed this a lot. And yes, I did Google. 2y
Cinfhen I really enjoyed this immersive story @squirrelbrain @rockpools 2y

LOVED this book ❤️🎧
#FoodAndLit #Russia
It‘s a super #GoogleyBook @rockpools
And now I‘m all #RahRah and ready to attempt to read Dr. Zhivago

rockpools Ooh, this sounds great! Still on the hunt for a #NotRemotelyGoogleyBook at the moment though... And good luck with Doctor Zhivago! 😊❄️💕 3y
Simona Have you read ... it‘s available on Scribd. That book was my preparation for Dr. Zhivago... summer plans 😅 3y

Cinfhen Ohhhh, thanks for the recommendation @Simona Will definitely add to my reading list 3y
Cinfhen I‘m probably going to save Zhivago for winter @rockpools because I‘m a big fan of procrastination 3y
BarbaraBB Dr Zhivago is doable. I read it in my teens! 3y
Cinfhen Good to know/ I think having some background now along with a little bit of age will help @BarbaraBB / im excited for @Simona recommendation too 3y

Oh look, it‘s a muddle of a #bookreport!

There are some FANTASTIC reads in here. The only one I‘m a bit iffy about is To all the Boys, simply because it‘s an exceedingly teen romance. (Final push to finish #BBRC, if you‘re wondering why I would!)

Corrag and Young Naturalist are both gorgeous. Young Mr McAnulty is a very talented writer.

And I‘ve *finally* started When We Cease - the most googley of #GoogleyBooks. What, REALLY?!!

Cathythoughts That‘s great about the fantastic reads .. I must investigate 👍🏻❤️ 3y
TrishB Great graphic 👍🏻 good luck! 3y
Cinfhen Ohhhhh, the most #GoogleyBook has me VERY INTRIGUED 3y

Simona Finally‼️😘 3y
rockpools @Simona 😝😘 3y
rockpools @Cinfhen Hmm. I mean it‘s great and all, but it sits SO firmly on the fiction/nonfiction border I‘m not sure if I‘d recommend it to you. Part of my googling is ‘did that actually happen?‘ (So far very definitely yes to all the facts) but there‘s always a smidge of uncertainty. I‘ll keep you posted. 3y
Cinfhen Oh yes, I HATE that blending of fact & fiction!!!! It‘s a DEFINITE LITERARY PET PEVE 3y
rockpools @Cinfhen Yeah. You might need to swerve this one, possibly! 3y
Cinfhen Thanks for the heads up 😁🙌🏻 3y

This was a joyous surprise!! I really enjoyed this #GoogleyBook @rockpools (😉) Did a sense of sibling rivalry between 2 sisters really ignite the writing career of Agatha Christie?! Such an engaging read. Based on truth and creativity, Marie Benedict has written an imaginative story about the courtship, marriage and brief disappearance of Agatha Christie in 1926. Audio narration by Nicola Barber was fabulous.

rockpools Ooh, this sounds good. I can imagine there‘d be an awful lot of internet rabbit holes to fall down 🐰! 3y

julesG 😁 Glad you liked it. 3y
rockpools ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I‘m stunned that Tender is your favourite though. Maybe I should follow @Cathythoughts lead & try a sample 🤔 3y
Cinfhen It‘s ROUGH @Cathythoughts 😬it involves some very disturbing ideas 3y
Cinfhen See my above comment @rockpools 👆🏽 3y
Cinfhen By the way @rockpools Piranesi is a VERY #GoogleyBook 3y
Cathythoughts Did you do audio Cindy for Tender ? I wonder what‘s best .. 🤔 3y
rockpools @Cinfhen Interesting! I didn‘t read it like that, but seeing other people‘s reviews, I see your point. I guess that gives me the perfect excuse to read it again. 3y
BarbaraBB You read this one fast! It‘s one of those books that DO stick with you I think. I just started 3y
Cinfhen I did do the audio for Tender @Cathythoughts and it was enthralling 🎧 3y
Lizpixie Right?? It‘s definitely a brain twisting novel🙌 3y
Cinfhen The audio for Piranesi was only 6 hours @BarbaraBB so it took 2 sittings! 3y
Cinfhen I think you‘re gonna like Shuggie @BarbaraBB give it some time💕 3y
TheAromaofBooks So did you read Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell? I've seen so many good reviews for this book, but I'm scared to pick up another Clarke book because I was in the minority over Strange & Norrell - I hated it & found the writing pompous & prosy - but I also don't like giving up on an author because of one book. I'm trying to figure out if Piranesi is similar in style or not. 3y
Cinfhen I haven‘t read Jonathan Strange @TheAromaofBooks BUT this book does feel “pompous & prosy” and more than half the time I felt like a moron because I had NO CLUE what I was reading 😬 3y
TheAromaofBooks hahaha well that's good to know! It was mostly weird because S&N sounded like it should totally be my jam. In general, I love books with complicated world-building & actually enjoy getting info-dumped. I also have a fondness for footnotes & parentheses, but for some reason Clarke's zillion footnotes in S&N made me want to throw her brick of a book at her head 😂 Maybe I'll check Piranesi out of the library & see how I feel about the first chapter 3y
Cinfhen Hahaha!! you might be pleased ( or not) to hear there are footnotes in this book too @TheAromaofBooks 😉 definitely try it, though!! It‘s a lovely, strange story 3y
Palimpsest 👏 👏 👏 😊 (edited) 3y
TrishB @TheAromaofBooks I hated S&N but loved this one 👍🏻 3y
Kalalalatja I really hope my library hold for this comes in soon! 3y
Kalalalatja And I seriously don‘t get how Tender can be your fave 😂😂😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks @TrishB - That's good to know!!! 3y
Cinfhen I know @Kalalalatja BUT it‘s the book that TOTALLY sucked me in and STAYED with me. I read it back in December and I‘m still thinking about it!!!! 3y
Kalalalatja And that is the sign of a great book 🙌 I‘m glad it worked so well for you, and your enthusiasm keeps me wondering what I missed 🤔 3y

I‘ve been saying I need to read something lighter for months. Turns out last night was the time to actually do something about it! It‘s a novella prequel to the Rowly Sinclair series, and it‘s just delightful.

It‘s a googley book though - I NEED to know what the Queen Victoria Building looks like, and whether the steamer tragedy reported at the start actually happened (it did.) So it may take me a little while!

squirrelbrain I *love* googley books - enjoy! 3y
LeahBergen Oh, googley books are the best. 😊 3y
Caroline2 A googley book! 😆 great expression!! 👍 3y

Cinfhen I love that!! Another NEW genre #GoogleyBook or what I affectionately call #LiveAndLearn 3y
batsy Agree #googleybook is the perfect term and those are the best books! 3y
CarolynM Hope you found some good pictures of the QVB as it's known these days as an upmarket shopping arcade. As an aside, my favourite Australian bookshop, Abbey's, is in an undistinguished modern building across the road from it. 3y
TrishB I love that term 😁 and books that make you do that. 3y
Lizpixie LOVE the QVB! It‘s a gorgeous building with an amazing clock. @CarolynM I‘m a huge Abbeys fan too! Especially the 2nd floor🪐🧙🏻‍♀️ 3y
rockpools @Lizpixie @CarolynM I‘ve had a lovely time exploring Sydney! I saw the clock, and the stained glass - looks amazing! Have also had a nose around Abbey‘s (what‘s on the 2nd floor, tho?) and the Town Hall. All set for a visit now - maybe 2030! 3y
rockpools @squirrelbrain It would have helped a lot if my Internet hadn‘t packed in, mid-google! 3y
rockpools @LeahBergen Aren‘t they just? Especially now, cos how else are we going to go off on adventures? 3y
rockpools @Caroline2 😁 Thanks! I was kind of hoping after I‘d typed it that it didn‘t mean anything untoward!! 3y
rockpools @Cinfhen Can‘t move for new genres at the moment! Distinct lack of birds and bones in this one tho 😁 3y
rockpools @batsy I do enjoy falling down the odd rabbit hole occasionally 😆 3y
rockpools @TrishB Yep, mangling the English language since 197?! But it is fun to explore by book! 3y
Lizpixie @rockpools the 2nd floor of Abbeys is all scifi/fantasy🙌 3y
