Read your way across the world - and get to know it better. READ THE WORLD recommends the best three books on more than 50 countries, taking readers on a trip through Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The mix of novels and non-fiction books - both classic and contemporary - goes beyond being merely set on location to reveal something of each country's soul. Whether you're an intrepid traveller or an armchair adventurer, climb aboard for a literary journey to counter different people and places, and learn more about them. Enjoy the trip! This book started out as a feature on the Guardian website, and has been revised and expanded.

GatheringBooks Oh wow! This is a fantastic collage. I plan on doing a half year post of all #ReadTheWorld2025 posts on GatheringBooks and this just might be central to that post - it‘s amazing! Which one is the book from Iraq? Is it Fundamentally, because I already have that one. 14h

Repost for @GatheringBooks

Our #ReadingGoal for 2025 over at GatheringBooks is #ReadTheWorld2025. This was inspired by my reading around eight countries in 2024. See here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-qUy - do join us, and feel free to use our widgets. I have a few more in my linked post. Just use the hashtag #ReadTheWorld2025 and tag me. My goal is to read 30 countries across 15 languages.

BarbaraBB Great idea. I always try to read from various countries and will continue to do so this year. I‘ll gladly use your widgets and will tag you! 4mo
Kristy_K I‘m also trying to read through the world! It‘ll be great to get inspiration from some of what you read and join along with the tags! 4mo
mhillis Awesome! I‘m love reading books in translation so I‘ll join the adventure 4mo

GatheringBooks @Kristy_K i love it! That is so awesome that you are also reading through the world. Let‘s do it!! 🤩😘🥰📚📚📚 4mo
GatheringBooks @mhillis i loooove translated literature, too! Happy to hear you are joining in this reading adventure! 4mo
GatheringBooks @Eggs indeed! 🙏🏼🌷📚 4mo
Larkken Wonderful! I feel like I try this periodically and then find a new country to obsess over every time. It throws me off the overall quest, maybe, but that‘s ok. I‘ve requested something for the Netherlands for #foodandlit, and I‘ll gladly tag this challenge as well after I read it 💙❤️🧡 4mo
GatheringBooks @Larkken very strategic, i love it! Happy to have you onboard. My favorite author from the Netherlands is Cees Nooteboom - and fell in love with 4mo
BarbaraBB @Larkken What book have you ordered? 4mo
Larkken @BarbaraBB Ha, just realized I got two 😆 which would you recommend? The Discomfort of Evening by Rijneveld and the tagged. @GatheringBooks I'll look that one up too! 4mo
BarbaraBB The first is short and very uncomfortable. The latter is good but loooong and a bit over the top. I‘d read the first but don‘t say I didn‘t warn you 😀 4mo
Larkken @BarbaraBB 🥶 oh dear. I'll offset with hot beverages and coziness. Thanks for the warning! 4mo
