Bk 1 of the Lewis Barnavelt mystery series: Love these characters! Lewis, a young boy who wants to be physically strong, continues to see the dark figure beckoning him…Rosarita is the clever and loyal best friend. Lewis lives with his uncle Jonathan. 12 books in the series. Love the cover art too.

Little late to the game here, but I think any kid introduced to Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, and Louis Sachar (especially the Wayside School books) at a young age will develop a love of language and a decent sense of humor.

The Beatrix Potter series is always a good place to start. Also, Dr. Seuss and A. A. Milne.
@TheBookHippie Thank you so much for such a beautiful package!!! I absolutely love everything! It couldn't be more perfect 💜🐉

I started this book. It‘s really good so far.
Louis is a trumpeter swan but he has no voice! Because he can make no sound, his father steals a trumpet for him to woo the love of his life, Serena

I appreciate the charming images and the insights into rural life of over a century in the past (Potter herself had a farm), but it comes with the occasional brutal honesty of the relationship between predator and prey, and between domesticated animals and humans raising them for food. Fellow vegans beware! This collection offers insights the individual books don't: failing eye sight vs earlier exquisite art, which tales Potter favoured. 1/2
