Bk 1 of the Lewis Barnavelt mystery series: Love these characters! Lewis, a young boy who wants to be physically strong, continues to see the dark figure beckoning him…Rosarita is the clever and loyal best friend. Lewis lives with his uncle Jonathan. 12 books in the series. Love the cover art too.

Little late to the game here, but I think any kid introduced to Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, and Louis Sachar (especially the Wayside School books) at a young age will develop a love of language and a decent sense of humor.

BookmarkTavern I‘ve found myself thinking about the Wayside School books again recently. I think my nibling would love them. Thanks for sharing! 2d
The_Penniless_Author @BookmarkTavern It was great revisiting them with my daughter a few years back. They're just as clever and wonderfully absurd as I remembered them from when I was a kid. 2d
BookmarkTavern Oh! It looks like he wrote a new one in 2020! Now I‘m definitely going to have to revisit them. ❤️ 2d

The Beatrix Potter series is always a good place to start. Also, Dr. Seuss and A. A. Milne.

BookmarkTavern Oh the Beatrix Potter stories are an excellent choice! Thanks for posting! 2d

Robotswithpersonality
The Complete Tales | Beatrix Potter

Mehso-so

I appreciate the charming images and the insights into rural life of over a century in the past (Potter herself had a farm), but it comes with the occasional brutal honesty of the relationship between predator and prey, and between domesticated animals and humans raising them for food. Fellow vegans beware! This collection offers insights the individual books don't: failing eye sight vs earlier exquisite art, which tales Potter favoured. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality 2/2 I think my favourite tale is Johnny Town-Mouse. Also happens to be one of the stories which demonstrates the dichotomy of some of the animals wearing clothes sometimes and sometimes not. I feel like society could learn something from this. 😉 4d
JanuarieTimewalker13 Oh, yeah, will skip this. I‘ve had enough horror regarding animals and humans one Vegan can take from reading Holly. I do appreciate how King made the Vegan the smartest victim, however. She refused to do what her captives wanted her to do. That‘s all I‘ll say in case you read the book. 4d
Robotswithpersonality @JanuarieTimewalker13 No idea what 'Holly' is, but now I feel warned off, thanks! 4d

JanuarieTimewalker13 Holly is Stephen King‘s newest. It‘s an excellent read, with the exception of gagging through some of it. Lol There‘s no animal abuse, it‘s more what the humans have to eat that makes it especially gross for Vegans (edited) 4d
Robotswithpersonality @JanuarieTimewalker13 No gagging for me! 🫣 Thanks for the info! 😊 4d
JanuarieTimewalker13 I don‘t want to put you off King….he‘s a master storyteller. If you haven‘t read him, start with The Institute….excellent…more paranormal thriller-y then horror. 4d
Robotswithpersonality @JanuarieTimewalker13 no worries on the King front, I did The Stand and Salem's Lot as a teen, loved 11/22/63 a few years ago, and didn't mind Fairy Tale earlier this year. 4d
