The Tin Woodman of Oz | L. Frank Baum
post image
Mehso-so

The Tin Man remembers the girl he promised to marry & goes on a quest to find her. W/ the Scarecrow, a boy named Woot, & an enchanted Polychrome, they‘ll face many weird & wonderful things in Oz.

I love the buddy road trip & the friendship, but I forgot that this is the book that introduces the fact that nobody ever changes or dies in Oz. Babies stay babies, the old stay old, & your chopped up body parts remain alive independent of you.🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

AlaMich That last one is ICK! 23h
BookmarkTavern @AlaMich Yeah! I had completely forgotten what happened with the parts of the Tin Man and the Tin Soldier. I had to put the book down for a bit. 😅 23h

rubyslippersreads I‘m certainly glad they left the Tin Man‘s “creation story” out of the 1939 movie. Of course, we‘ll get another version in Wicked: For Good. 22h
BookmarkTavern @rubyslippersreads it‘s a really disturbing backstory any time you stop to really think about it. I‘m looking forward to seeing how the movie interprets the musical. 22h
Clare-Dragonfly Huh, I didn‘t see this book as introducing the fact that no one ever dies, more clarifying how it works in practice! I had wondered how there could be kids and old people and everything in between, and now that part makes more sense. The body parts aspect is very weird, though. 13h
BookmarkTavern @Clare-Dragonfly I know it isn‘t the first to say no one dies in Oz, but it‘s the first time that I really understood how it applied to body parts. Which, now that I think about it, Langwidere showed up several books ago, so I probably should have had this realization then. 😂😂 5h
Clare-Dragonfly @BookmarkTavern I was thinking about her and her heads but she‘s not technically in Oz, right? And I don‘t recall any of her heads being animated on their own… 2h

I'm finally caught up, fellow #BobWhiteBuddies! (And I need to come up with a better storage solution for these TB books, since we still have quite a lot left.) This one was pretty good, even if I never did understand how the wheelchair bit at the beginning connected to the rest. I liked the storyline with Hallie and Trixie. I hope we see Hallie again later in the series.

#Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

Finished a few weeks ago for #EBBR & as usual I returned my library book before doing a review.🤷🏻‍♀️I have to go with the others who think this one was a bit “meh.” I didn‘t find any of the mysteries that great or memorable except for Smelly Nellie which I did get correct, not because I know much about whales but because I caught a detail in the reading. I missed the ones about space & the axe handle but got the rest.

Ruthiella That‘s a pretty good solve ratio. But I have already forgotten if ambergris floats or not! 😅 2d

Pickpick

15 Aug-26 Sep 25 (audiobook)
Read this aloud to Polly quite a few years ago and decided it would be a good series for Beatrix and I on the commute.
I enjoy Brontë‘s voice - both the actual narrator‘s voice and her view of the world. She is bright, funny and quite English. Her quest to visit her ten aunts in accordance with the instructions in her parents‘ magical will is fun and a little silly. And it is long, making it good value on audio.

We went to a big used book sale yesterday and here's the kids' book haul - just look at all those Beatrix Potters! I can't resist a collection, especially at a super great price.
Not included in this stack are a baby shark colouring book and an Aladdin story/etch a sketch combo thing, both of which my kid found way too cool to let out of her hands.

Bunnies on the Bus | Philip Ardagh
post image

I love the #beautybreak idea, thanks @ImperfectCJ !

Joining in with one of the backyard bunnies nomming on my geraniums.

(Thankfully a much more sedate bunny than the bunnies in the tagged book, currently one of my 3 yr old's favourite library check outs)

ferskner Gosh I love spotting a bunny in the wild! I don't see them often and I love it. 2d
llwheeler @ferskner these live under our deck in our backyard so we see them pretty often, and most years get to see baby bunnies too 🙂 2d
ImperfectCJ Bunnies are my favorite to spot! When I lived in Massachusetts I took a walk every morning and photographed every bunny I saw (always at least one, sometimes 5 or 6). Here, I see them often but not as reliably as there. 2d
llwheeler @ImperfectCJ fun! That must be quite the photo collection 🙂 2d
