Susanita 19 pages! 🤬 3d
ManyWordsLater I‘m having difficulty articulating to friends the difference because library curation and banning books. 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Well if you curate out anything to do with racism, gender, feminism, or transgender…you maybe are not curating a collection on a specific topic but removing a complete topic. For instance….race books out, Mein Kampf in…you could say more war history related…. But also out as feminism books about the underground movement of women in Afghanistan….which was probably pretty important in a fairly recent war. So I think it‘s the how, why, & ⤵️ 3d

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ purpose. I am not a librarian, I should add. But I would think curating a collection is different from say removing from a library. My public library has the library, and a separate curated section on local history….but that does not mean they removed every book from the main library on any other subject. 3d
shortsarahrose @ManyWordsLater - I‘ll add, as a library worker/person with a masters in library science, collection development has more to do with building a collection that reflects a wide range of viewpoints on any given topic - even those that we may not personally agree with or that the majority of our community may not agree with. Censorship is removing or refusing to purchase items that don‘t align with a certain view. 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa And why on earth Maya Angelou needed to be cut, only makes sense if it‘s a military curated collection…. But I did not see any other books of American classics novels of that sort listed. Just hers. And I find it hard to believe there was only 1 classic literature book in the library. No Steinbeck for example. 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @shortsarahrose Thank you! I knew we needed a librarian! When in doubt, always ask a librarian. 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Susanita right! I had heard about it when it happened, but today was the first time I had seen a complete list. Very interesting what topics the removed books seemed to be centered around. And so nice they included the topics for each books, and I‘m assuming the rational for pulling them. 3d
ncsufoxes It‘s an odd collection of books, meaning it‘s kind of all over the place. A few repeated titles (some have different publication dates but some are repeated 2-3xs). There are only a few fiction books. I‘m surprised The 1619 Project wasn‘t on there. It is interesting to see what they find intimidating. My guess is whoever curated this list probably hasn‘t read one of these books. They probably used AI to generate the list. 3d

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ March 2025 Bookclub Pick

First half better than the 2nd half. Enjoyed that the author came with facts and made historical comparisons. Did not expect it to predict current day issues despite being published in 2017.

A pop up shop inside Changing Hands Tempe , Az. I heard the conversations of teachers & staff talking of all the controversies & challenges. Hey , I know that most Littens are profoundly aware of all of this , I was happy to see customers who are discovering for the first time the extent of this BS !

Hooked_on_books That‘s great visibility! Good for them for bringing attention to this. 2w

In the reference section of my Alma Mater working on a project for my Masters which I‘m getting at an entirely different university. But it‘s 5 hours from me and my Alma Mater is only 30 minutes. :D

This was a wild month. I read more books than there were days in the month (just). I read A LOT of good books, but also a fair share of meh books. Talk about an adventure.

Such a beautiful soul!
This is such an emotional rollercoaster. It was beautiful and heartbreaking, but also funny in places. I seriously wish we could stop policing children and labelling it “class disruption.” Children being themselves is not a disruption. It is honest. Maybe oddly, I‘m angry. I‘m so angry for this amazing human being, I‘m angry for other people living it right now, who are left with zero information about themselves and reality

GingerAntics because someone, somewhere is afraid of what isn‘t their lived experience. Don‘t even get me started on the teacher saying he would have been a slave owner. What the actual 🤬?! As an educator, I just don‘t see how in the hell those words could just slip out of someone‘s mouth. I guess we know what kind of person that teacher is. Those are the white people who make other white people ashamed to be white. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 1mo
GingerAntics 🤦🏼‍♀️ It‘s long since time we did better - SO much better - by our children in this country and around the world. #GeorgeMJohnson #AllBoysArentBlue #LGBTQIA+ #BeautifulHumanity #readthis 1mo

GingerAntics @Leftcoastzen oh my god the emotional rollercoaster!!! He is such a story teller, and his family is a good model for everyone! More families need to be like this one. … and oh my god the teacher who said “if I was alive then I‘d probably have slaves, too.” WTLF?! 1mo

Prairiegirl_reading I have similar socks and I purposely wear them to work when I‘m pissed off. No one else can see them but I know they are there and it‘s so petty that it makes me happy. 😊 2mo
