Kish‘s memoir is a heartfelt look at her journey from Midwest adoptee to Top Chef host. It‘s about identity, queerness, friendship, and finding purpose in unexpected places. I picked it up out of curiosity and ended up really moved by her honesty and humility. A thoughtful, satisfying read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ReadByTheAuthor

AmyG She is awesome. I watch her on the Food Network. 6h

GingerAntics @kspenmoll when in Rome! If I ever get to travel, I‘m eating like the locals. 1mo
Deblovestoread This reminds me of a the time I picked up a friend‘s Danish girlfriend from the airport and had to feed her dinner. I fixed tacos. She didn‘t know what to do. Been friends ever since. 1mo
GingerAntics @Deblovestoread I‘ve heard in that part of the world they eat EVERYTHING with cutlery, even hamburgers. 1mo

Maybe it‘s me. Maybe it‘s the current situation. Maybe it‘s just the world of the 70s, but is this guy privileged talking about not worrying about spending money? His parents are at home on their boat in some islands, so he‘s definitely coming off as privileged. Maybe it‘s just me though. Arguing over paying $12 for a mink pelt? Naming it ring worm? He‘s… uh… interesting.

GingerAntics He‘s also not very worried about his incredibly sick travel companion. 1mo
willaful From what I remember of sociology from college, it was the world of the 70s. 1mo
GingerAntics @willaful the laid back, no worries that my buddy here is so sick he‘s seen two doctors on vacation so far, spend money at will? The 70s really were a wild time! 1mo

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie wow! The music is good, but the mentality is insufferable!!! 1mo
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics Remember a lot of young men were dying, women had no rights, it was we are going to die anyway so let‘s live for now. 1mo
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie okay, fair. I‘m surprised Gene didn‘t die on this trip! 1mo
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie and to think, this is the generation saying my generation is so self-centered and immature. Dude, y‘all were just like that, or worse, in your 20s. Lay off. 1mo

I felt so seen reading this! I relate to so much of it, and even managed to find words for certain experiences I‘ve never been able to describe. From the discomfort of tights and dresses, and not liking them letting down our mothers to the let down and struggle of puberty. I know some people felt this book was disjointed and confusing. This is what the inside of my head is like, so this made total sense to me.

GingerAntics If you‘re questioning, if you‘re wondering why it seems everyone is so sure of themselves, this is such a vital book. That you Elliot Page for writing this. #ElliotPage #Pageboy #audiobook #ReadByTheAuthor #nonbinary 1mo

kspenmoll Books are the best way to feel connected with others. Love to you my friend! 💕 1mo
GingerAntics @Bookwormjillk they really are! 1mo
GingerAntics @Amiable I think this has been a long time coming. I‘ve read two books by trans and nonbinary folks this month and both brought out childhood memories I‘d long since buried. It feels good to brings those back out into the sunshine. 1mo
GingerAntics @kspenmoll they really are… it‘s sad that these same books are turned into something so divisive. If this isn‘t your jam, don‘t read it. Easy as that. 1mo

10% in and this is beyond insufferable. Tell me you‘re a privileged white man without telling me you‘re a privileged white man. Face book is a catastrophe, but you still have stock in it (so you‘re still profiting off of the catastrophe). You wrote this book while J&J was swamped by lawsuits over harm done, but you cite them as how this catastrophe should be handled.

GingerAntics I‘m sorry, he‘s just as back as Zuckerberg, especially since he was so easily convinced (no one even asked him) to drop his op-ed. This is not the man to write this book. This is more of his memoir of privilege than anything. Tell me more about, how as a white privileged male, you didn‘t like not being listened to, while still profiting off of what you saw as an issue. 🙄 Tell me more about the BILLIONS you‘ve earned. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 1mo

This isn‘t starting well. You see this catastrophe at Facebook, but you STILL have stock in Facebook. 🙄 So I guess it‘s not so bad to you after all.

A better title for this book would be “Why I Needed to Find Reasons to Stay Alive.” There was one section of reasons, but they were from twitter so it was annoying. This isn‘t what I was hoping it would be when I started, but it was pretty good anyway. I think the title is just a bit of a misrepresentation. I would have chosen to read this on more of a high than a low, personally; but your mileage may vary.

GingerAntics The big focus seems to be to put all your will to live on another person. It‘s a memoir and if you‘re not looking for encouragement or reasons to stay alive, you might enjoy this as just a memoir. #MattHaig #ReasonsToStayAlive #audiobook #ReadByTheAuthor #Memoir 1mo
