#BOTMBUDDYREAD #9

How are you liking this read? Is it what you thought? How do you think our characters are going to meet?

RachelAmphlett I didn‘t read the blurb or anything before starting it, I just bought it based on some bloggers raving about it. At the beginning, I wasn‘t sure what to think, although I adored Berney‘s turn of phrase with characters and setting. When it transpired he *might* have had a hand in the assassination, I was like whaaaat? 😂 4y
TheBookHippie @RachelAmphlett I always go in blind to these #BOTMBUDDYREADS so I‘m unbiased to make questions and read it clean -so I had the same reaction ! I didn‘t read the flap on the book til yesterday 😬😳 4y
RachelAmphlett @TheBookHippie I did the same with an Instagram readalong of King‘s Duma Key earlier this year and I think I enjoyed it more for that reason 4y

TheBookHippie @RachelAmphlett I am finding I prefer it. No clouding of judgement even if I think I‘m going in blind. It‘s fun to find out all together as well as speculate together. 4y
Sargar114 So far, I‘m meh. I really like Charlotte but not overly fond of the noir style going along with Franks story. I think I‘ll enjoy it more now that they‘re on the run. But I do like seeing the perspective of the hit man. That‘s an exciting touch and will give a good cat and mouse kinda feel. 4y
Jess861 This isn't a book I would've picked up if I hadn't decided to try and join in on this conversation (if I can find the time). I find myself pleasantly surprised and am enjoying the book so far. I was able to get to the end of chapter 8 fairly quickly and found myself wanting to read more. I am interested to see how the characters meet as I really haven't an idea at the moment (although I assume they will meet somewhere on the road very soon). 4y
AmyG I probably wouldn‘t have picked this up on my own. I wasn‘t too sure about it but am curious to see where this all leads. I like the Charlotte part the most and I figure her and Guidry will meet at some point. I, too, @Sargar114 am not a fan of the Frank noir part. I am thinking this will get better the more we know. 4y
Sargar114 I think so too @AmyG. I think it was mostly for character introduction so now that he‘s on the run it may be more standard narration. 4y
Mitch @Jess861 Totally agree - the cover would have put me off from reading it myself - but im enjoying it. It has a good sense of place- and i love a book where I can picture the landscape. The writing's good so far and im lovinG The diverse range of characters.Good choice @thebookhippie and @alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 4y
TheBookHippie @Mitch the cover -I so agree! 4y
TheBookHippie @Jess861 We try to stretch ourselves out of our normal reading patterns I‘m finding I learn so much this way and read books I would have never looked at. It‘s been so much fun. 4y
CoffeeNBooks I had no idea what this was about before I started reading it. I'm not sure how I feel about it so far. I'll keep reading, though. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Mitch thanks!! I‘m at work and trying to look at the conversation!! 😱😱☺️☺️ 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TheBookHippie @Mitch awww I like the cover 💗 4y
Librarybelle I'm thinking it's a meh read so far. After the first chapter, I did contemplate whether or not to continue. But, I continued reading and got into the rhythm of the narrative. If I had to rate the book at the moment, it's probably somewhere between a 2 and 3 star. However, I'm interested to see how Frank and Charlotte's story intersects. And, I want to see what happens when Carlos and his team realize Frank skipped town. 4y
Mdargusch So far I‘m really enjoying it and I‘m glad I can start reading the next section! 😆 4y
Hooked_on_books I hated the first chapter. I found Guidry to be a despicable man who treats women like garbage and thought the noir style was way overdone. But I kept reading and with each chapter I like it more and more. I‘m excited to continue reading—it‘s got me for sure. 4y

Repost for @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks :
Coming 2020!! We will have a slight change to the way we currently do our #BotmBuddyRead!! We will still read ONE BOOK A MONTH; sometimes it may not be BOTM selections. This will allow us to read a wider variety of books currently unavailable through BOTM! There are so many awesome books being and we will now have more options!! 📚💗

We are super excited about this! We hope you will be too!!

Thoughts?!

JaclynW I'm good with this! Good books = good books (no matter where they come from). 🙂 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @JaclynW exactly!!! 💗🙌🏻 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you for reposting!! 😘 5y
Andrew65 Given one or two of our #BOTMBuddyReads recently I think this is a good decision. Some haven‘t been up to the quality of others recently. @TheBookHippie @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 5y

Pickpick

So much #heartache in my #BOTM! This is an engaging book from its very first pages! Told from Sylvie‘s perspective, she was only 14 when her sister Persephone disappeared- and now at 30, she has returned to her CT home and begins digging into the past... some of the plot is easier to see coming than others, but I couldn‘t tear myself away from this one! #LiteraryLove

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I ordered this one too!! 5y
TorieStorieS @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Oh- I hope you like it as much as I did! Since joining BOTM (totally a #BlameItOnLitsy membership!!), I have made it a goal to read at least my pick of the month within the month! The extras, I give myself a little extra time to get to! 😊 5y

Day 17 #AdventRecommends
One of my favourite books this year, simply loved this story and it ending up having far more depth than I expected during the early part of the book. Think I have found a new favourite author. Not read it? What are you waiting for?
Also love this cover!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m so happy you love her!!! I sure do!!! ❤️❤️ 5y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Don‘t think we should be surprised we both love her! Our tastes seem very similar looking at the #BOTMBuddyReads 😍😍😍 (edited) 5y

BooknerdsLife Happy reading! One of my favorite books this year! 💕 5y
EadieB I have this on hold too! 5y
Andrew65 @BooknerdsLife That‘s what I keep hearing so looking forward to it. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB I was surprised that my library didn‘t have this but bought the ebook. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Someone will definitely ask them to purchase it soon! 5y
AlaMich It‘s sooo good!! You guys will love it! And it is superb on audio; the narrator is outstanding. 5y
BooknerdsLife @Andrew65 Can't wait to hear what you think of it too 😃❤️ 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I tried my library and overdrive, no book at my small library, overdrive 12 plus weeks🤨 so I bought, I wanted physical copy. I'm stoked! 5y
Andrew65 @AlaMich Great to hear! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB They seem to have very few of the #BOTMBuddyReads 5y
Andrew65 @BooknerdsLife Will let you know. 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi I have the same problem with the #BOTMBuddyReads. My libraries are very behind the times with modern popular fiction. 5y
EadieB @andrew65 that‘s really deplorable! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB They don‘t seem very up on modern fiction and keeping up with trends, other than favourite series. Not helped by budget cuts. One librarian recently hadn‘t even heard of Daphne Du Maurier! Can be very frustrating especially when you recommend ebooks that are highly rated which they ignore and they buy whole swathes of series that are second rate or smutty Romance Books. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 That is definitely frustrating! 5y
TheBookHippie I'm ready!!!! 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Hope you‘re feeling better. 😍 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I've turned on my library to maisel Dobbs series, Charles Todd's bess Crawford and Rutledge series and a few other newer books too. Did this by donating my books and they put in circulation. I will continue to give them books I think will reach a wider audience, and they can put others in their used book sale! 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi What a great idea! Some great series there too. 5y
Crazeedi @andrew65 I loved maisie earlier books, love all insp. Rutledge book, and I liked the first couple bess Crawford, then meh 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Maisie is one of my favourite series and want to get to the others. Just too many series on the go. 😳 5y
Pamwurtzler I‘ll give it a try. I‘ve been wanting to read this . . . 5y
Andrew65 @Pamwurtzler Yey! Be great to have you join us. 😊 5y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 we've had whooping cough, chicken pox, stomach flu, nasty strep throats at school thankfully I got the short lived stomach flu 😷🤢 blech ...son got a sprained wrist grand baby a nasty virus and high fevers and poor hubby came home to all this sick himself with a bad cold after being gone a week 🙄😭😭😭 #hotmess (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie What a terrible time you‘ve had! Hope you are all recovering now. Had some of those same things at school recently, but clear,y not to the same extent. Keep building up your strength and rest! 😳 5y

SilversReviews Yes...I have read them all and LOVED them all. THE CLOCKMAKER‘S DAUGHTER takes a bit to get into, but Kate Morton is the BEST. It is worth the wait. ENJOY...they are all reviewed on my blog except Kate‘s book if you want to take a look. THE CLOCKMAKER‘S DAUGHTER will be reviewed in October. 6y

Doing well - I‘ve not gone near my copy of the book ahead of the #botmbuddyreads in May. But it‘s hard to stay away from good press! Great article by Fiona Maazel in #Bookforum

Bkwurm Thanks for sharing this. I have this book on my list to read when it comes in my @Powells #Indiespensible box and I can't wait to get started! Maazel's review just made me want it more! 6y
