A Christmas Carol | Charles Dickens

🎧A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
I picked this up for 2 reasons, first- hello it‘s the season!! And second, to suffice the Play genre on my 2021 Bloom Reading Challenge. I‘ve seen the play and the movie adaptations but I‘ve never taken the time to read the play. This version was read by Hugh Grant and, while he did very well I did not swoon over his voice the way I thought I would. Book #74 in 2021

Kristina McMorris is one of my favorite authors and this book didn‘t disappoint! I have the physical book, but I listened to the audiobook which was well-done. This premise of this story is so sad, but the fact that people tried to help the families in this situation is encouraging. (Thank you @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for my physical copy!) #100YEARS100BOOKS #74 #BookSpinBingo #22 #BFC21 #Tails&TalesforAdults #1 #AUDIOJUNE #1

2020 #74 on audible. Because you have to hear that voice. Alright! Alright! Alright!

Elizabeth2 I saw him interviewed on a national news show and this book looks really interesting! 1y
Danay He‘s quirky for sure (in a good way.) He‘s an interesting guy and that made the book a great read. Be aware that there is some strong language, if that bothers you. 1y

#74 I‘ve seen the movies of LOTR but unsure if I want to read the books. I‘ve heard people complain that the writing overly describes everything. Thoughts?

Patchshank Yeah. Tolkien can be a bit long winded. I think most people skim the long descriptions. Some people I know really like it. I don't think anyone actually reads all the songs and poems though. I like Tolkien, but I don't have the attention span. I usually do a lot of skimming. 1y
Bookwomble I guess it depends, as ever, on what you like. I love Tolkien's descriptions of the country through which the Fellowship travels, as the land of Middle-earth is as much a living character as any other. Tolkien's poetry is varied & interesting (to me 🙂), from the nursery rhymes & doggerel of the Shire to the epic poetry of the elves. You can skip over these things, but for me it's picking out the cherries and leaving the cake, & I like cake 😋🍰 1y
Arkrayder I read the descriptions and the poems. Everything. The writing draws you in. For me it almost feels as if I‘m there. 🤷🏻‍♂️🗡🪓🏹 1y
xicanti I‘m glad I read the books once, but I have no desire to ever return to them. Plenty of people comb through them time and again, though, and dig deep into the wider history of Middle Earth through all the supplementary texts. 1y
ShelleyBooksie I only read book 1 once as it is very detailed in setting up the world. I've read the other books multiple times - I love them. 1y
