Corruption runs rampant again in Venice in this addition to the series. Brunetti suspects foul play when the body of a bureaucrat who had recently visited Brunetti at his home with some not so great news is found outside a building. Brunetti‘s intuition leads to the darker side of Venice and the evils of money laundering and drug dealing. #192025 #2000

Third book finished for #NovelNovember. @Andrew65

I loved this memoir by Stephen King. The tips on writing are useful, but I liked even more his comments on his most well known books and his honest thoughts about his fight with alcoholism and his recovery from a near-fatal accident.

Librarybelle I didn‘t realize he got so personal in the book! 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 1y
kwmg40 @Librarybelle I'd read this book in print but also borrowed the audiobook from my library, as it includes interviews with his sons. These give even more insights into his personal life. 1y
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the encouragement! 1y

How I love O‘Farrell. This one‘s another favorite. Alice saw something in Edinburgh, leaves the city immediately afterwards, steps into the traffic in London and is taken to the hospital in a coma.
Was it a suicide attempt? The book is about love and betrayal, family and friends, happiness and despair. It‘s a wonderful sad read. I‘ll carry Alice‘s story with me for a while.

Thank you for sending me this book @CarolynM 😘

Mehso-so

What a mess, West-Africa in the 90s. When his mother dies and he is left without family, a young boy from #IvoryCoast travels through war torn Liberia and Sierra Leone in search of his aunt. He becomes a child soldier and witnesses all the horrible things a kid shouldn‘t. Drugged and hyper he writes down his story.

Librarybelle This sounds heartbreaking 2y
Cinfhen The history in modern day Africa is just as heartbreaking as the days of early slavery 2y
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle @Cinfhen It is heartbreaking indeed and it seems hopeless 💔 2y
Megabooks Thinking about what the west has imposed on Africa and the issues colonization and slavery created just breaks my heart. It‘s been hard for me to have the emotional space to read these stories this year with the other issues I‘ve had. 2y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I can understand that. It is hard to read and to deal with. 2y
