Slow, and quite difficult in parts to follow, but some really interesting sections, this fictionalised account of an African dictator makes me feel as if I need to learn more about actual modern African history. #roll100

Finished my first book of #40for40 a few days ago and I didn't realize this was part of a series until now. Like, there's more!!?!!!?! OMG. I have a thicc stack of library books waiting for my attention but I'll absolutely be returning to this story.

A graphic novel set in the Ivory Coast, 1978. Brimming with drama and mess. Maury Povich levels of mess. Loved it.

This story follows three characters and their life in modern day slavery on the Ivory Coast. Sold onto a cacao farm, Amadou must learn to survive and keep his younger brother safe. Then an unlikely encounter changes their lives.

I picked this up from the library after seeing @Bookwormjillk ‘s post for #readingafrica2023, for Cote de Ivorie.

It centers on the lives of 3 young women as they finish high school and get up to shenanigans. I appreciate the view of family tensions and how much they can vary.
