Pickpick

I had yet to read this one by Christie, so I was so glad the #GoldenAgeCrimeClub read this one this month! I‘m a few days late finishing!

Christie crafts such a dramatic, edge on your seat opening scene, that the reader has to find out what happens. As usual, Christie introduces clues and red herrings to keep one guessing. So good! #192025 #1957 #52BookClub23 #TimeInTheTitle

kwmg40 That opening scene is incredible! 5mo

John meets his doppelgänger, a troubled French baron, in a pub. The Baron ensures that John takes his place through a devious maneuver. The new Baron is confronted with complicated family relationships and the imminent bankruptcy of the factory that the family owns. He appears to play a central role in everything and he tries everything to save the family from painful situations. A great gothic read!

The Midwich Cuckoos | John Wyndham

Pickpick

In this story about a village whose female inhabitants all get impregnated at the same time is creepy and disturbing. Wyndham also explores ethical and philosophical issues that this scenario raises.

I also watched Village of the Damned, the 1960 adaptation of this book. There were some differences from the book, but overall, it captured the ideas and suspense quite well.
