can‘t believe it was my final read for #12Littens12Books! I really enjoyed reading it because the 18 snippets into rich white french bourgeoisie were so well written you got swept along by the skill alone. This is obviously destined to be adapted to screen. Also: do not read if you‘re planning on getting married soon. Ending up as unhappy, frustrated, and unlikeable as ANY of these 18 characters would be my biggest fear for silver- and old age!

julesG @Cinfhen It's working fine. It's just the book selection that's making this drag on. There's only one book I'm really interested in, the last one in the round. @Maike selected it; she picks great books with less than 200 pages.

julesG @rockpools #MountARC has risen to 96 books. 🙈 I think it would be best if someone changed my NetGalley password. The non-fiction books are always easiest to go through though - and that's counting trying out a recipe or a crafting technique. It's the ones that looked interesting (cover, blurb), but don't deliver that trip me up. That and all the interesting looking books that I was not approved for and then buy/borrow to read while they're hot. 4y

rockpools @julesG Wow - good luck! The problem is (I find) you need to log in to leave your reviews - and then it all goes pear-shaped! I know what you mean about the ‘look interesting, don‘t deliver‘ ones - it becomes such a chore to get through them, but you really feel you *should*... I‘m sure the cats will help 😺 4y

Not my preferred reading material, but I can recognise good writing when I read it! Rothmann manages to show beauty in a dark and somber story, highlighting wondrous details and joy in everyday occurrences.

I really wanted to like it, cause the idea is good, but K J Fowler just ain't as good a writer as Miss Austen is... by far. Meh.

I didn‘t like the story, but did enjoy the read, does that make any sense? There‘s a certain acceptance of affairs in there that just annoyed me, but there‘s also a sense of the absurdity of life in there that I really liked. I mean that in the sense that everyone has their own worries, worries that seem absurd to others. And there‘s so little understanding for each other, even though we‘re kinda all in the same boat...

Not too sure about this one...liked the first half, got annoyed with the second half... I think I liked Jin‘s writing style, but the characters became too much like caricatures to me.
Very curious to see how the others in our #12Littens12BooksRound2 like it...
