#OnThisDay in 1835 the first installment of Fairy Tales Told for Children by Hans Christian Andersen was published in Denmark. Andersen brought a new, informal style to children's tales that did not sit well with critics, who believed the stories should be more educational rather than entertaining. It wasn't until the 3rd installment, containing an original story about a little mermaid, that critics began to change their tune. #HistoryGetsLIT

My dad recently gave to me this stunning little boxset of fairytale books he won as a child. I was so moved to be gifted them - when I was little I used to admire the set so much, but was only allowed to look at them if I asked permission and was very careful. He said he knew I would look after them and love them, and indeed I do! Photos of the inside coming up...

I never realised that in the Emperors New Clothes that he keeps walking even after his error has been called out to him, less embarrassing to remain naked than to admit his mistake
