I really liked the characters that weren't perfect. It was easy to relate to them and feel for them.

This was pretty thrilling to read, and I loved that. This also kept me guessing, really intriguing read.

Here are my possible picks for #GroupI for #LMPBC I've only gotten into mysteries the last couple of years so some of these may be ones likely to already have been read. Whisper Man by Alex North; The Child Finder by Rene Denfield; I'm Traveling Alone by Samuel Bjork or Echoes From the Dead by Johan Theorin. @rjsthumbelina @Alfrazier21 @magyklyXdelish

SamAnne Another mystery book in my TBR is Scrublands by Chris Hammer--a murder mystery set in Australia with a drought/climate change backstory. And two others high on my TBR list but may lean a bit to the horror/fantasy: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones and Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline, both are mysteries with a bit of horror/fantasy thrown in, with Indigenous characters, written by Indigenous authors. 4y
rjsthumbelina Out of these 4, Echoes from the Dead sounds best to me. 4y
magyklyXdelish I haven‘t read any of them but whisper man is on my TBR. I‘m okay with any of them :) 4y

Alfrazier21 I‘m sorry! I don‘t know how I missed this post! I‘m good with any of these. 4y
SamAnne I‘m leaning towards Whisper Man! 4y
SamAnne @magyklyXdelish @rjsthumbelina @Alfrazier21 okay I‘ve changed my mind again. I‘ve wanted to explore Nordic Noir. I got Echoes of the Dead off a “best of” in the NYT highlighting Scandinavian noir writers. You all okay with that one? 4y
magyklyXdelish @SamAnne I‘m okay with your Nordic noir pick. 4y
SamAnne We may have to do Whisper Man if I can‘t get Echoes in time. It is back ordered. 4y
Alfrazier21 I‘m down with whatever you pick! 4y

Very basic nordic noir. Didn't really stand out from other Nordic thrillers that I've read. The characters were also pretty basic nordic noir characters. It was still nice to listen to. But if I'd had to choose the next nordic noir book to read it wouldn't be from this series...

Devoured Scandi-noir in one sitting! A young girl is found hanging with a note that says “I‘m traveling alone.” All stops pulled out as police detective Munch leads his team. He persuades Mia, his former partner who is suicidal to re-join just for this case. Mia goes on instinct and her unique impressions of the clues. Riveting and intelligent, good backstories, recommend without reservations. Mia is like a grown up/maturer Lisbeth Salander!

This was my second book by Bjork and I still love these characters. In addition to Holger and Mia, there are some new characters that add a new dimension to the cast. Holger has a knack for finding the right people for his team. This quote sums it up. Looking forward to more by Bjork.

I thought this book might be a bit disturbing because of the subject matter but it was not an issue. This is more of a crime procedural and the team of investigators is particularly intriguing, including one in particular Mia Kruger, who is wrestling with some demons herself making her a very interesting character. This book has lots of plot twists and ratchets up to an exciting finish. I'll be looking for the next one in the series.

I really enjoyed this, lots of twists, great detectives to get to know - with flaws and personalities rather than just being crime solvers! It was a new type of murder mystery as the victims were children, so that was tough going, but the story really went on a race against time to catch the baddie. I already have the next one lined up to read!

"A six-year-old girl dressed in doll's clothes is found lifeless in the countryside wearing an airline tag around her neck reading 'I'm Traveling Alone.'" This one might keep me up at night. I do love a good Scandinavian crime novel.

Only two chapters in so early days but so far, so good! I'm reading very mixed reviews so will keep an open mind for now, especially as my last venture into scandi crime fiction was disappointing.

I'm happy to report that my first read of 2017 was a good one - a really good one. This book is intricately plotted with well-drawn characters that the reader can become invested in. There were no major twists or turns, rather a layered work that slowly unfolded to reveal the each piece of the puzzle. Bjork kept the tension high and I flew through this one pretty quickly! I'm already anticipating the next installment in the series!

A macabre choice for Christmas, I'll admit. But this was a solid page-turning thriller, that's for sure. Really well done build up and kept me on my toes. As great as it was, the ending wrapped up a smidge too quickly for my taste (my one nitpick).

This book was fast paced and definitely held my attention. The characters were likable and fun to get to know and the story line was gruesome, which I loved. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit disappointing and everything happened so fast/in a short amount of chapters but overall the book was awesome. I just wished for a little bit of a bigger wow factor in the conclusion. Overall 4 stars!

DON'T MISS THIS READ. (It deserves the all-caps.) this is a stellar US debut for Bjørk - a layered, complex plot, disturbing central case, and female protagonist who would make Lisbeth Salander proud. I LOVED this book.
