The Housemaid's Secret
The Housemaid's Secret: A Totally Gripping Psychological Thriller with a Shocking Twist | Freida McFadden
36 posts | 57 read | 9 to read
"Don't go in the guest bedroom." A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick's face as he touches the door with his fingertips. "My wife... she's very ill." As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can't risk losing this job-not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe... It's hard to find an employer who doesn't ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want. It's almost perfect. But I still haven't met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I'm sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I'm doing laundry. And one day I can't help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything... That's when I make a promise. After all, I've done this before. I can protect Mrs Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe. Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It's simply a question of how far I'm willing to go... This absolutely explosive and shockingly twisty sequel to international bestseller The Housemaid will keep you racing through the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, The Woman in the Window and Gone Girl will be totally hooked! This book can also be enjoyed as a standalone. Read what everyone's saying about The Housemaid's Secret: "OMG!!! MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!!!! Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolute page-turner!!... OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!!... I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!!... Addictive, mind-blowing page-turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!" Bookworm86, ????? "An amazing psychological thriller!!... will grab you literally from the first line... Hold on to your jaws, because they will drop... Loved. It. So. Much!!" Goodreads reviewer, ????? "OH YEAH!!!... Freida McFadden is the queen of plot twists. This is the second book in the series and I flew through it. When you think you know the twist that‘s coming… you‘re still surprised. Really enjoy her writing.

Perfect sequel to The Housemaid ! I picked it up right after finishing the first and ordered the third book (released in June) immediately after finishing this one! I could see this as a tv show or movie.

Playing a little catch up!!! Typical Freida with twists right up until the very end. Super quick read with the same end result…just love her. Not as good as the first one but close.🖤

The second book in The Housemaid series and this one is just as good as the first, if not better. Millie is at it again. She can‘t stand to see women being abused by their husbands. This story has a bizarre twist and Millie could land herself in prison. Another great twist at the end. Love Freida McFadden! #SeriesLove2024 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

I read this one before reading the first one in the series. It‘s the second book and it is so good. I love it for it‘s plot twists. I love a good thriller with a plot twist. Not all characters were lovable, but that‘s okay. Made it more interesting. Couldn‘t put this one down. Excited to read the first and third books in the series. ❤️✨

To me this one started out slow. I struggled to read the first 50 pages and thought about DNFing it. But, it picked up after then, and I flew through the book. The twists were great. That one twist, I can't tell you about bc I don't want to ruin the book, really got me.

I actually liked this one more than the first (The Housemaid). The beginning was also somewhat slow but it picks up sooner. The twists were interesting and unexpected, pretty hard to guess. Although, some might have opposing views, that is my take. Lastly, the book can stand on its own, but it is a continuation of the first story, and I would still recommend to read The Housemaid first.

Are we sure this is the actual second book to this series? Because I loved the first one, and this one was just bad. This was not the same Millie as the first book! The first book she was determined and strong! This book she was annoying and complained about everything! I saw the ending coming from the first 100 pages... it felt like bad acting, but in a book? Just cringey. 2/5

🌟🌟🌟 I honestly think her books are ok. They are sort of not very realistic but are entertaining. I‘ve decided these are best consumed via audiobook. They are too light to engage me fully in a read but do pass the time when listening to them.

This is book two in this series(?) And Millie from The Housemaid is back. Whilst this was still a solid and page turning read...it's much different from the first. Not as good but still good enough to read if that makes sense. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

The Housemaid‘s Secret is the second book in The Housemaid series. Once again we follow Millie, still a housemaid and now also a student, freshly employed in a household that hides twisted secrets. Her new employer, Douglas Garrick, lives in a beautiful penthouse apartment and has a successful career. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Bklover I really liked the first one- can‘t wait to read this one! 11mo
suvata @Bklover I liked this one just as much. Very twisty and turney — just when you think you have the whole story, bam, another turn! I loved it. 11mo

Had to leave work this morning and go to the doctor. Most of you know that I talk on the phone all day at work and I lost my voice a couple of days ago. Turns out I have strep and bilateral ear infections 😫I‘m going to try to start this one. I‘m having chills so I may not make it very far. Have you read it or any of this author‘s books! I loved The Housemaid and Do Not Disturb 🖤

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @tonymp I agree! Thank you! Not very often an adults get strep 🤷🏻‍♀️ 13mo
tonymp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You'd be surprised about adults getting strep! I got it quite often from childhood well into my mid thirties, although the frequency of it tapered off when I started college. I think I got it a total of 5 times throughout my twenties. Some people don't like being over 40. I really don't mind! I had one bad year, age 8. I got it four times! 13mo

dragondrool Feel better! I lost my voice for three days when I was in the middle of student teaching 31 sixth graders. It was just from strain. Katie loved it, because any time I needed everyone's attention, I would signal her and she'd holler for me. 13mo
tonymp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm also 47! Strep free for quite a long time, since my thirties. Honestly, and I'm not a scientist (actually, I'm a Spanish teacher, not good at science), I think it just has to do with random crap. I've always had to be a talker, and I mean a public speaker (you know, language teaching) so the more you open your mouth, the more your mouth is open. The bacteria just see you with your mouth open and fly in there. 13mo

I loved this sequel almost as much as I loved the first one. Such an awesome twist that I didn‘t see coming even though I had suspicions. This was so well crafted up until the very end. I loved that there were little pieces that I knew were important but I couldn‘t figure it out until the very last page. This book was another masterpiece by this author.

#TheHousemaidsSecret #FreidaMcFadden #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2023

Millie Calloway was hired as a housemaid for Douglas Garrick and he told her not to go into the guest bedroom as his wife was very ill. She can hear Mrs. Garrick crying and can see blood stains on the neck of her nightgown so she does knock on the bedroom door to make sure things are ok. But what she sees she knows Mrs. Garrick needs help getting away from her abusive husband.

EadieB That's when all her problems begin. This is a very interesting mystery which I enjoyed reading. It has a cleverly plotted story that I had a hard time putting down. The characters were intricately believable as I read on in the plot. I loved the Epilogue of three months later when Millie gets her revenge. If you love crafty mysteries then you would love this book. 1y
