From the author of A Little Hopea Read with Jenna Bonus Pickcomes an enormously powerful and life-affirming novel about three individuals facing challenges and grappling with loss in his or her own way. Chuck Ayers cant decide if he should make the trip to Hilton Head this winter without his wife, Cat. Cat died in the spring, and though he cannot bear another moment of being alone in their home, the thought of making the familiar journey without hernot stopping at their favorite lunch spot or listening to her beloved Broadway tunes on the way, not sitting on the beach or playing cards once thereis unimaginable. Ella Burke delivers newspapers and works at a bridal shop to pass the time while she waits for newsany piece of informationabout her missing daughter. She adjusts to life in a new apartment and answers every call on her phone, thinking her daughter will reach out one day. Kirsten Bonato works at an animal rescue shelter and thinks daily about her father who was killed in a convenience store robbery. Once on track to become a veterinarian, Kirsten now feels lost and unmoored. But her complicated feelings for two of her colleagues are a distraction from her pain. The lives of these three individuals intersect in unforeseen ways, as each character bravely presses onward, trying to recover something they have lost. Tender, emotionally powerful, and infused with hope, A Quiet Life explores how grief shapes our choices and shows that no matter how dark the most difficult moments in life can be, our humanity and capacity for forgiveness shine through.

I loved how three distinct stories wove together to become with a single story of hope, love, and community.

While this book doesn‘t have all of the bells and whistles, boy is it beautiful and poignant. I fell in love with the characters and their individual struggles through grief and loss. This is a book that will stick with me for a long time to come!

Going based solely on the cover, but may need to change it if the visual has nothing to do with the setting 🤔

Hooked_on_books Hi! Thinking of you as my husband, dog, and I drive through Spokane on our way to Montana to see his parents. Hope you are well and reading some good stuff! 4mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - Holly!!! Hi!! Oh, I'm waving to you from Spokane and hoping you, your hubby, and pupper had safe travels to Big Sky Country ☺️ I'm so sorry I missed your original message. I've been absolutely awful about checking in on Litsy 😢😭😭 Hopefully I'll make a more concerted effort to come on more regularly. Are you still stateside?? 4mo

Hooked_on_books Yes, still here! We actually moved back to the Oregon coast at the beginning of March and are living in Cannon Beach. We only stayed in Montana for a few days and are back home now. We‘re happy to be back on the mainland. 4mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - Ack!! I'm screaming! (In a giddy, totally non-threatening way! Please don't be scared) I'm excited for you and sad I missed the momentous announcement and envious in the best way possible that you live in Cannon Beach!! We've never been, but it is my dream, my wish to go and also visit Astoria so I can make all my Goonie dreams come true 🥰 4mo
Hooked_on_books The funny thing is, the first time I saw the Goonies (as a kid), I was captivated by where it was set and dreamt about it since. I lived between CB and Astoria before we went to Hawaii and loved the area, so I‘m so happy to be back here. And we bought our house from my in-laws when they moved to Montana (where my MIL is from), so my husband is over the moon to be here. 4mo

While the story centers around loss, I was drawn in by the characters and how they each were trying to find their new path. Not typically the type of book I would read this time of year, I appreciated the message and it made me thankful for what my own blessings are.

Warning, this book is heavy. Every character is dealing with the loss of a loved one. I didn't know that when I started reading it and several scenes brought up my own recent loss. It does have happy moments and everyone finds what they need in the end.

An introspective, character driven novel about three people experiencing very different, very hard things and the community that forms slowly as they grapple with grief, guilt, and their uncertain futures. Fairly predictable, I‘d give this a low pick. Full review at http://booknaround.blogspot.com/2023/07/review-quiet-life-by-ethan-joella.html?m...

This is a lovely, emotional story about loss, grief and coping mechanisms. Three separate people have lost someone close to them and their lives connect through their heartache and pain. It‘s a heartwarming, moving and thoughtful story with some well drawn characters. Although it is a book about the sorrow and sadness of losing someone special, it is also about hope. I loved it! Highly recommended. #Pigeonhole

This man sure can write! This was my #bookspin for February. I originally incorrectly put it down as his first book A Little Hope which I had already read. (Which is wonderful too!). He will definitely be a “must read” for me going forward. 5⭐️‘s

Read at the beginning of January. I liked this type of stories where characters review their lives and try to amend, or find answer to those inner questions to be in peace with themselves. This story is something like that. I found Kirsten a little bit selfish, convenient at the beginning but then you can understand her. All these characters are dealing with different types of grief. Their stories will be connected. So pretty 4/4.5⭐️

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This book is about the power of connection when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. It‘s about the impermanence of life and the possibility of hope. It is a book about living with grief. Told from multiple POV, the story takes 3 different narratives and interweaves them in ways that feel possible. This was an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating.

Like A Simple Hope, Joellla beautifully describes the love, sweetness, longing, and deep ache of grief. Be prepared to feel tears prickle your eyes as you follow this beautiful novel.
