History, ships, pirates, queer characters - what's not to love? Exactly! Sure, at the end it got a bit too much YA for me, but I think in that age readers just need that. Everything else was just an awesome ride. I loved how Mar grows and learns to accept themselves, Novoa wrote their journey really good and I think a lot of young readers will relate. And maybe some of us older ones, too?

Man, you know a book‘s good when you look up and realize you don‘t know how much time has passed. This book was incredible. It‘s by far the best book I‘ve read this year, no doubt. I‘m always down for a queer pirate book, especially one that features a transmasc pirate with magic and a plot to kill le Diablo. This book was so good! 5🌟🏳️‍⚧️

Mar finds out their father made a deal with El Diablo minutes before the demon sinks their pirate ship taking the crew with it.
Mar is the only survivor when they‘re rescued by another pirate ship who accepts them into the crew.
Mar partners with the captain‘s son, Bas, and a demon, Dami, to try to bring their father back.
Audio book is read by Vico Ortiz, highly recommended.

NGL, this is probably going to be one of my favorites of the year! Another #trans story about a latine pirate who tries to save their father after El Diablo comes to take its end of a bargain. A beautiful story about family ties, found family, being ourselves, and romance. Oh god the romance was so cute!! The ending even surprised me, probably bc Mar isn't the most reliable narrator lol also i LOVED Dami 🥹 i need more of them pls #fantasy
