Daisy Ellerys pies have a secret ingredient: The magical ability to avenge women done wrong by men. But Daisy finds herself on the receiving end in Misha Popps cozy series debut, a sweet-as-buttercream treat for fans of Ellery Adams and Mary Maxwell. The first time Daisy Ellery killed a man with a pie, it was an accident. Now, its her calling. Daisy bakes sweet vengeance into her pastries, which she and her dog Zoe deliver to the men whove done dirty deeds to the towns women. But if she cant solve the one crime thats not of her own baking, shell be out of the pie pan and into the oven. Parking her Pies Before Guys mobile bakery van outside the local diner, Daisy is informed by Frank, the crusty diner owner, that someones been prowling around the vanand not just to inhale the delectable aroma. Already on thin icing with Frank, she finds a letter on her door, threatening to reveal her unsavory secret sideline of pie a la murder. Blackmail? But who whipped up this half-baked plot to cut a slice out of Daisys business? Purple-haired campus do-gooder Melly? Noel, the tenderif flakyfarm boy? Or one of the abusive men who prefer their pie without a deadly scoop of payback? The upcoming statewide pie contest could be Daisys big chance to help wronged women everywhereif she doesnt meet a sticky end first. Because Daisy knows the blackmailer wont stop until her business is in crumbles.

Pardon the pun, but I ATE THIS UP. I cannot remember the last time I finished a book this fast and enjoyed every minute. If you loved The Change by Kirsten Miller but wouldn't mind a little more sugar to go with your feminist vengeance 'good for her' with a supernatural twist story, this is for you. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? On a personal taste note, I really appreciated the fact that, unlike a thriller setting, the stalker sub plot didn't come with the, admittedly realistic, endless turmoil. Protagonist was all "time to HANDLE this" and it was just so refreshing. Some dark topics, but a nice balance of feel good moments. 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/4 Author probably could have phrased possible demisexual rep with a bit more sensitivity, but the protagonist was working through some insecurity about different aspects of herself she considered broken, so I'll give it some grace. 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 ⚠️abuse, addiction, mention of SA, fatal pregnancy 3mo

Nope..DNF..The MC bakes pies to kill people “who deserve it“ but only “the men who deserve it“. Since when did the feminist movement become synonymous with the vigilante movement? Yes I know women have suffered since the beginning of time at the hands of men and this is a work of fiction “to blow off steam“. It just wasn't for me I guess. “An eye for an eye and world goes blind“ - Gandhi

KathyWheeler I had started this but put it down for similar reasons. I don‘t know if I‘ll ever go back to it. 12mo

The audiobook was not my speed. I had to bail out after the first couple of chapters because the protagonist sounds the same killing a rapist and consoling a girl that is a victim of domestic violence. I should have loved the story, but the narrator just didn‘t work for me. I might try the paperback later on

So much fun!! My first time participating in #auldlangspine and @monalyisha knows how to match up the perfect pairs! I have three of these books on my shelves, and I can‘t wait to read them in January! The tagged book looks like fun (they all do!) and I‘m going to hunt it down before January 1st! I may add more, but these are the 4 definitely! Great list, @katiekat311

monalyisha I keep telling myself I‘m going to try to get into cozy mysteries. I love the titles so much. 😆 1y

This book was everything I needed this week. Seriously. Had zero expectations and I LOVED every second of it. Sassy, a great plot with shocking twists, equal parts cutesy with enjoyable characters. I have not one bad thing to say about it, it was utterly delicious.

The Ellery women have always had magic and they have used it as a positive force. Daisy‘s abilities manifest in being able to infuse her baked goods calm, confidence, and even death. Through a referrals only process Daisy assists women in getting justice or in ridding themselves of abusive men. She struggles with whether or not she is using her power appropriately. . More feminist than I expected. I loved this book!

Is there such a thing as a cozy thriller? I think this book might make for the argument.

I devoured this book and I can't wait for more in this series.

I was pleasantly surprised at every turn with this book. It's fun mix of magical realism, thriller, mystery with a dash of romance (with bonus points for LGBTQ rep).

This definitely falls into the cozy mystery genre, which is often one I struggle to get into, but this concept really appealed to me and I felt pretty invested from the start. I can‘t say that I was madly in love with the story as a whole, but I did enjoy it.
